Can't say the reason was travel distance, time between games or start time for this one. It was just a sub par effort for more than half the contest.

Winnipeg is in a division race between Colorado and Dallas and neither team is going to do them any favors. The Jets have arguably the toughest remaining schedule and there isn't a lot of runway left.

I'm not angry, nor am I worried, I just want the division title. I don't particularly care about the first round match up. Dallas likely isn't favorable but ultimately, it would be nice to see something other than a string of 0's when you check out the Jets Wikipedia page.

The playoffs have already started as far as I'm concerned. Win 1 Lose 1 is good enough to take a series if you strike first. It's not going to be good enough to finish first in the Central.

If they don't, it's not the end of the world, and no, my expectation wasn't for them to do so at the start of the season. They're right in the thick of it though, they also had a big games in hand advantage at one point. Now that they have a chance at topping the division, I crave it. I'll have the same carnal desire emerge, if not a more ravenous one, the deeper the Jets go in the playoffs. I guess it is fair to say that new expectations can come with new circumstances.

The time for playing consistent hockey has got to be soon, if not now. It should be an interesting weekend.

Ehlers had a beauty.

Can't fault LB.

Jake Allen is a prick.

Got schooled pretty good in every aspect from 5v5 to the PP to the PK.

Losing is not a problem but pre-ASB the Jets rarely had games where they look this porous defensively, now it seems to happen every 2-3 games.

Looks like the Eastern Conference also got the memo on the playbook to handle the Jets with home ice advantage. Match up your best offensive line against the Jets top line- and basically a guarantee that you'll come out ahead in the scoring chances. The Devils coach did not even try to deploy his top line against our 2nd 3rd or 4th lines despite having home ice lol. This is the biggest question mark for this team going into the playoffs and they need to find a solution to get more out of their 16-17 mins a night at 5v5 players, if it is not Ehlers then they have to consider killing some sacred cows like breaking up that 3rd line or trying someone like Barron or Perfetti up there.

I don't mind the PP going cold. All the bad habits at 5v5 coincided with the PP going hot. Hopefully now they actually focus on fixing the team-defense at 5v5.

Schmidt is pretty clearly better than Miller. Stanley and Miller should be in competition for the #7 d-man spot. In my viewings it is not even close between him and Schmidt. Schmidt had back points in 2 out of the last 3 games, was a +3 in that period.

Hopefully this means Perfetti back in the lineup too.

Pretty good game by Pionk considering many were calling for him to be scratched in favor of Miller.
The inconsistency is maddingly consistent.

Fair enough. I just do not think they can match col's speed and offence or Dal's speed and tenacity. Too many soft players i.e..ehlers, Connor, too many slow players i.e. Nino( who I love) and Lowry.
I do not expect perfection but it seems they take far too many nights off. I hope they are. Saving it for the playoffs
I don’t think of Ehlers as a soft player.
On the other hand, Connor is the true definition of a soft player. In my opinion.

It could be the devil's are better than both teams or are playing with greater urgency since they are fighting for a playoff spot. The Jets have looked bad against dal. I am concerned if they play them over 7 games .
There is really no sense in worrying about it much until they actually PLAY Dallas in the playoffs...which we don't even know if they will. Worrying about something that may or may not happen justs causes too much anxiety. Trust me I know, I struggled with anxiety most of my life. It's been a good season overall.

I'd actually be more concerned about playing the Predators than the Stars or Avs in the first round, if they continue to play like this and go into the playoffs smoking hot. They just shut out Florida.
Florida was the #1 team in the league and now have lost 3 straight games and 2 of them they were shutouts ... does that sound familiar?

It is going to be tough no matter which team they face. I am more focused on the Jets returning to playing like they were at their peak rather than their 1st round opponent. Jets getting to level they were at in Dec-Jan at 5 on 5 while keeping the PP atleast league average is more important to their chances of winning in 1st round than their 1st round opponent.

I actually didn't mind this game... the devils sucked before trading for Jake Allen... now they should be a playoff team

Jets had a post big win let down - not the end of the world

Special teams killed us but I really liked our PK - some nights the bounces don't go your way

Laughable to see guys calling out Miller in his what third game as a Jet...?

Only disappointment was that we couldn't generate chances after ehlers put us on his back

KFC has to start playing hockey instead of looking for cookies... that is all
The Jets PK is bad. Not as bad as their powerplay, but still pretty terrible. And it was especially terrible tonight. Pushing 15 xGA/60...

The Jets powerplay, for comparison, put up a depressing 3.6 xGF/60 tonight.

As much as I can appreciate all the good things Connor does and what an incredible talent he is, I can also assume that he'll lose every board battle he enters and be correct the vast majority of the time.
Kyle will be the first person our playoff opponent hits over and over. I seriously hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think he will be effective when the going gets tough. You’re right he is an incredible talent.

He's pretty good at avoiding any kind of physical contact...I don't know if the knee injury has made him more gunshy, but he seems a little extra averse to any kind of contact since coming back.

Well that game stank about as bad as the swamp Jersey is built on.
Team Jekyl and Hyde continues.
If the team had played a good game and lost it would be one thing but to put up a stinker like this after 2 nights ago putting up a gem is disappointing.

We play like we did against the Rags we go deep in the playoffs. We play like we did tonight we are team 4 and out.

Ehlers with a highlight reel goal but still turns the puck over far too often.

LB with a great game with little or no support. Looked a little shaky on the EN goal though. Was definitely caught out of position. 😆

Hard to feel good about that one

The boys need to do a lot better then 6W 4L per 10 games going down the stretch. With the Chevy spend acquiring 3 guys, we should be running at 75% to 80% points percentage across these final games.

@Atoyot never stated I was a manly alpha man. More like a Leisure Larry. BTW Project A-ko, Guts, Ninja Scroll, OPM, and Akira are my fav anime’s.

Censored Urban Dictionary: Soyboy, man lacking masculine traits.

Also my emoji ain’t working and I don’t know the QWERTY version of the sarcasm face.
Started reading the Berserk manga at the beginning of the new year. Sickeningly brutal but I now understand the acclaim. Ninja Scroll and Akira are classics. To name a few I also really like Slam Dunk, Lupon and of course what started it all, DragonBall.
Uh yeah...that's me all right. Totally not a complete nerd myself. Ahem...pardon me while I...lift stuff?
Even nerds can appreciate Kyriakos Grizzly..

Over the last bit when teams are ramping up for the playoffs they have laid an egg vs Vancouver, Nashville and New Jersey. And they were big, stinky rotten eggs at that The only good team they beat is New York. Do you really get excited about trouncing Anaheim and Columbus? Then we beat two teams we should have in Seattle and Washington. But also lost one against Seattle at home.

Not exactly reason to rejoice now is it? I’m sure you are able to see at least a little bit where some fans may be a little worried, no? Their play has been VERY inconsistent, and against the top teams we have not faired so well in all reality. Not really how you want a supposed top team to play going down the stretch. We had games in hand and now we don't.

So please don't make it seem like those of us who are at least a tad bit worried about the play as of late are crazy.

Listen, I’m never going to be “that” fan that hates on my Jets bros and sisters who cheer for the same team that I cheer for. So I get where you’re coming from or where another fan upset with the outcome is coming from. I want a W like you, like anyone who cheers on the same team I do.

Ultimately we all want to see the team do well and play as consistent as possible

This wasn’t a great game for the jets - I think anyone even the most stoic fan will feel some discontentment with a loss even if it’s a hard fought loss. We want to see the team win

But

For some it’s always “the Jets played poorly” and never looking at the job the other team did, or acknowledging where things went wrong, only berating them…that’s not a realistic take. I had felt similarly at times earlier this year and I had to take a step back and reflect on why I had such dynamic feelings, even had to rewatch some games, and realize where I was wrong and have since accepted a season isn’t going to be perfect, down to the very end. The Jets are going to lose some games in the playoffs, some of those might be stinkers (we hope not but sometimes the momentum isn’t with us)

I watched the last canucks stinker live, I spent $200 to the canucks org to watch their team
Beat down my team. But games like that will happen. The previous game we took it to them. Other “contenders” have laid goose eggs or have had periods of inconsistency, it happens to not just the Jets

This game wasn’t a blowout - there were a lot of weird puck bounces, bad passes, and ultimately special teams is was really decided the game. Their PK didn’t clear the zone. Gave the devils too much time. People forget how much high end skill is on the devils team.

Now, to say “make it seem like fan a or b is crazy”, if your position in the same paragraph is “a little bit worried” and stressing the team is “VERY” inconsistent, I don’t think that is a balanced perspective. It isn’t one that reflects - I mean objectively reflects - a team fighting for first in a tough division.

It also doesn’t give any respect to the team across from them. Sometimes the other team is just better, and the devils have many players I would love to have on the Jets that showed up and played well for their team tonight.

One needs to keep expectations in reality with an nhl season. Stressing “VERY” inconsistent play is simply not true. You’re still talking about a top team, and you also probably don’t watch other nhl top teams enough either - this is not something the Jets are singular in doing. It happens to Boston it happens to New York rangers it happens to the canucks it even happens to the avalanche and the stars. Preds recently have been on a tear but they have looked downright bad at times earlier this year.

My point stands, and I’m sorry if you disagree with it. People really come out swinging hard with these losses and they’re not usually as bad as people claim.

Look at the winning PGTs - they’re empty. Where are the same fans coming out celebrating the win?

I say with all due respect as a fellow fan - if yours or any fans’ position was you’re a tad bit worried and there’s some inconsistencies in their play, at times, we’d agree on that (I do however disagree with “VERY inconsistent”)….If your stance is one that can see that they had some bad bounces or some plays didn’t connect or they whiffed on pucks or they tried too hard to make the perfect play or some other uncharacteristic play (I say uncharacteristic because if you look at the games the Jets have won, and given they have won more games than they have lost this season, you can see what their “characteristic” traits are), we’d agree on that. In this case, the Devils were one of the best teams last year. This year they were letdown only by goaltending. they still have very high end talent and they are not an easy W; they should not be expected to be an easy W. take away the special teams, despite the shot volume, this would’ve been a lot closer of a game. Our players know they didn’t play their best, just listen to the post game interviews.

And - Even if the Jets were the best team in the league, they could still be the Boston Bruins of last year in the first round. Nothing is guaranteed. even with the loss today, this is still one of the better Jets teams we as fans have ever had the pleasure of watching; we can’t lose sight of that either …
