Someone mentioned it in another forum, I asked where they heard it and waiting to hear back from them. I did a search and saw this was posted yesterday which really doesn't qualify as a legit rumor, just someone coming up with trades that should happen:

My hunch is that's where they're getting it from.

Boqvist will be the other center. Would love to get Danault on a 3 year deal, but I don't see him being an option unless we overpaid.

What would you want to trade for him? Personally I do not want to trade the Isles 1st so I am not sure what the Blues would want from the Devils. I also have feeling if the Devils valued Dunn he would already be here since his name has been out there for a while

My thought is if you are about to lose him to expansion draft for free, maybe you can get him for a cut rate

Maybe, but he has been available for a while. I have to wonder if the Devils have any interest in him. Graves became available, they jumped on him. They acquired Siegs last year when Dunn was available. If they really liked Dunn IMO he would be here already.

St Louis dangling Dunn and Tarasenko clearly have some opportunities available to them to navigate the expansion draft. I don't know what those are so I can't really say what their best course of action is but I'm guessing a 3rd and a mid level prospect for Dunn is not enough, as Dunn at least has value to them as expansion draft fodder.

I’m glad a lot of people on here are finally starting to come around on spending money. Get these kids a chance to play meaningful hockey into feb March would be huge for them

That's what I thought, but possibly hurt through half of next season and last year of contract, hearing that, it would almost be a waste to use a slot on him, depending on his future intention.
Smashed it out of the park with that part.
I really don't think it's as underwater as people think. It doesn't scare me a ton. As a 3c, I don't think it's awful, all things considered. If they are offering a good sweetener like Foote or their first, Id probably do it.
So it really just depends on whether you think he can play a competent 3c role for a couple of years.
It really feels like nhl teams may be going back to opening up the checkbook, too
