I don’t know if it’s the whole Absence makes the heart grow fonder thing or what, but I’m ready to see Nico as our Captain.

For me, it really came down to that I preferred a younger player get the C and our two obvious choices were recent 1st overall picks Nico or Jack. I love Jack and believe him to be developing into a Superstar, but what Nico has done defensively in the NHL since he was a teenager is just amazing and add to that his own blossoming offense that I think will only continue and thrive under Ruff.

Nico Hischier- Captain for the New Jersey Devils since 2021... make it so.

The Devils and their reporters aren’t being clear on this question. So typical.
Pretty sure Buffalo had guys that were on the list the day prior and played before the new list came out against the islanders or something... idk. If it was today that would be something

I’d take Hall back with open arms, I don’t believe in any of that cursed nonsense and I think Hynes and bad goaltending (Cory) was mostly to blame in the struggles last couple of years. I think Hall’s speedy playmaking style fits Ruffs system like a glove. Players trying to force plays through Hall is (was) just a sign of bad coaching.

That said, the price needs to be right, he hasn’t been a ppg player in the last two years, so he shouldn’ get paid like one.

Yea the only thing i can come up with is that the list comes out at 5-6pm for testing reasons. But if the players results come in after that time they can be removed but the official list doesn't get released until 5-6pm.

So if Nico needed 1 more negative test, it came in at 7 or 8pm, it was in fact negative the Devils can move him to the roster when they have a spot open (Tennyson being waived) and he is eligible to play and practice with the team. The official list will come out at 5-6pm and Nico will be off it.

That would explain why a player on the list is eligible to practice with the team before he is "officially" removed.

TOTALLY SPECULATING. I dont recall seeing anything that said the players were only eligible after the list was announced.

But either way based on whats out there i would expect a Nico debut today in 11 hours or Sunday night. Either one works for me.

Yeah, I mean I feel like we've seen reports come out that the tests (non-rapid of course) take a while to deliver the results, and in some cases it's close to 7pm or when games generally begin. We saw the same here with Kulikov practicing while still technically on the list and I think he said, or someone reported, that he was coming off the list that day. I'd guess, if Nico does play today, he was waiting on one final negative to come through before he was eligible to come off and that result came through last night.

And if he was offered a contract by the devils, which he wasn’t, he may still be here
Do you actually think that Shero and Hall's agent didn't talk at all? I am sure they did, and weren't in the same ballpark contract wise for term and years.

Member when people thought we didn't have enough talent? Pepperidge Farms remembers.

The problem was ALWAYS John Hynes. Always.

I actually think it's still a bit of a problem. We have a lot of smart, high character, hard working players. And that will take you pretty far. But we still lack that high end talent that generally pushes a team over the top.

I still believe that Jesper Bratt can join Hischier and Hughes as elite offensive talents. He seemed like he was busting out before Covid hit three weeks ago. If that's the case, and if this showcase by Zacha is real (I know, I know) we might be much closer than we thought. I already think this team has more offensive talent than any Devils team since '11-'12.

I appreciate how well Johnsson has played, but I would really like to see Bratt-Hughes-Zacha at some point. I think it could dominate.

"One of current issues with the PP, they try to force passes to Palms. Sometimes young players give to much respect to vets/stars and that becomes a developmental road block."

This comment is so spot on but I never see it mentioned. Young players often dish the puck (and sometimes force) to veterans to earn respect, meanwhile in many cases they miss opportunities or could have buried it better themselves.

It is something coaches are fully aware of and is also an odd form of peer-pressure.:thumbu:

I think Jack fits that description, but even so this team reminds me how the Blues are built, four fast and solid lines, I don't think there is any reason this team can't reach the top down the road.

Eh, I think the bigger issue is that they can't gain the zone or maintain possession of the puck inside the zone to set up a scoring opportunity. It gets tougher now with no practices.

Someone said that the pp will probably get better just from regression to the mean, and I guess I'll settle for 'bad powerplay' over the current unprecedented disaster.

This too.

I liked this post then unlike it, just so I could like it a second time. I firmly believe that Nico should be El Capitan.
