FWIW, Bjorkstrand played with the Kopitar bros in Sweden...

Yup they were teamates in mora in Sweden 2, I don't think they were linemates tho 13 points doesn't support that, he got signed in khl the following year which I didn't expect at the time. I has actully played againts him several times in junior, had a nasty collision with him aswell where he was carried out and I limped badly. bth acording to this link he seems pretty serious about gaining a contract he has until mid july to impress or he will go back

Thanks for sharing!

Seemed like just about the only guy here trying to earn a contract with a real shot. Would be nice if a speedy guy like that could stick, we could use the forward depth.

Does the guy sporting the 8 GA average look any good?

That's Dusty Imoo's kid, I'm guessing, to fill out the camp goalie roster. Imoo is the ...development goalie coach? IIRC

Wondered what happened to Brule. I recall the Kings wanted Brule from the Oil (in Smyth deal?) and settled on Fraser.

I believe the intent was to buy Brule out: http://www.coppernblue.com/2011/7/1...ssion-trade-edmonton-oilers-los-angeles-kings

Lombardi needed to dump Smyth's $6.25 million cap hit and $4.5 million salary and the Oilers were his publicly-announced preferred destination. Tambellini was willing to take Smyth on, but in exchange, he wanted to dump one of the terrible contracts he'd offered since taking over in Edmonton. Lombardi agreed to take Brule with the intent of buying him out of the final year of his contract, saving $1.2 million and adding only $300k to the Kings' cap over the next two seasons.

Sources say the Kings were willing to accept Brule as part of the deal with the intent of buying him out, however the collective bargaining agreement forbids teams from buying out an injured player.

Because of his age, Brule would have been cheaper to buy out. DL was annoyed at Edmonton who had given medical reports saying Brule was cleared. They then settled on Fraser who wound up needing ankle surgery during that offseason. DL then got super pissed as Edmonton's medical reports downplayed his ankle injury.

Anyhow, back on topic. I'm toying with the idea of taking in a Mississauga game in October. Moverare should hopefully be in a good spot to eat up minutes.

Correct, it's one of those filling a roster spot while helping out a co-worker sort of invites that happen with dev camps at times.

It wasn't an ankle injury if you read that article you posted and then read between the lines a little. Brule's ankle was fine but he wasn't "healthy" per se. You can't buy out players that are part of the leagues' Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Program.

Yeah, Brule was concussions and Fraser's was an ankle: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/sports_blog/2011/07/kings-ryan-smyth-dean-lombardi-colin-fraser.html

Lombardi initially agreed to take forward Gilbert Brule in exchange for left wing Ryan Smyth but balked when he said the Kings’ lawyers determined Brule had not been procedurally cleared following a concussion. Unwilling to void the trade because Smyth had asked to leave Los Angeles -- and because Smyth’s departure would take a huge burden off the Kings’ salary cap -- Lombardi agreed to instead take center Colin Fraser and a seventh-round pick in the 2012 draft.

Lombardi said he knew Fraser had suffered a fractured foot last season but was told Fraser was days away from being cleared.

However, Lombardi said the Kings’ doctors found not only an unhealed fracture but an alarming cyst in Fraser’s foot and a blood disorder. Lombardi said Fraser will require surgery that would keep him out four months.

“This kid needs surgery now, which is going to put him out four months. It’s not even close. To be told he’s going to be cleared that Wednesday and now we get him and he’s clearly not cleared and to clear him he’s going to need surgery … and that’s the one [injury] they told me about, let alone the other two. On the heels of Brule? Holy smoke.”

Going to dev camp has been a little tradition of mine as long as it's been open to the public. A bit of a hike here from Pasadena so it's not the easiest thing for me in the first place. I work freelance so i'm usually able to go on a weekday and write my stupid little evaluations for you guys and I have a great time doing it...

However, this year is the first year i'm sort of choosing NOT to go. Not sure what it is, I've been feeling really
"MEH" about this team. Maybe it's this sort of an inner rebellion against Dean: trading away all the prospects and picks in the last 2 years for ONE PLAYOFF WIN. Also, These LOYALTY contracts that have come back to haunt us.

Granted we have one of the best development coaching staffs in the league getting the most out of these late picks. I'll be there at training camp watching the drama unfold on who gets these open jobs... but w/ dev camp right now... I'm simply just not feeling it :/

That being said, i still wanna read about these prospects! let's hear it!

You mean we get nuthin', nuthin' 'til August??

Thanks for posting PJ.

I was only able to get down for Tuesday.

Like how Clague looks, likewise with Moverare. Schmalz looks like he has worked on stickhandling and mobility a bit. I think he might be a sleeper impact player for the Reign next year. Cernak can be pretty commanding with the puck, might be a lot more offensive upside to him than previously thought.

Clague's energy really stood out to me, especially on the 1v1 drills. His gap control, along with Roy's, is pretty strong.

Interesting that Lintuniemi not attending? Also, no Ladue or Jack Campbell?
Would expect both to be there.

Lintuniemi has not even made it to AHL, so you think he would not get a
pass.

LaDue & Lintuniemi plus a few others that are not attending Dev. Camp will be in on 7/17 for a week.

Campbell will not be in until later or September.

Sincerely,

B-MEL

Thanks for the brief recap, Jason. Love the interviews. I'll comment in the other thread later.

For informal skates?

Thanks, B-Mel. You must be connected....appreciated!

Thanks Jason, for the report. Good to hear about Cernak. Do you think he will be back in Erie, or make the jump to Ontario (AHL) ?

Think the Kings finally have a group of young D that may all have upside of Top 4 guys: Ladue, Cernak, Clague and Moverare. Sounds like Moverare has a ways to go on skating, but with the Kings feeling they can improve that (he's only 17) and moving from larger to smaller surface, will only help him there too. The IQ is the thing that he has, along with ability...so if he gets his skating to where they hope, they may have a gem. Do you get the feeling he will go to OHL, or back to Sweden?

From watching Clague on video and hearing his interview...seems very very focused. Seems like a sharp kid and with his skating and puck skills, along with being a top paring D on the WHL Champion Wheat Kings all bodes well. Lots of Intl team experience - bet he will be a key D on Team Canada this coming WJC. I'm not worried about his size...many top offensive D are 6 and 190. He just turned 18 so could still grow and be 6'1" 200 in 2 years.

Seeing that literally every one of the Kings staff thought Moverare had the highest IQ in the draft...kid is gonna be a good one. They also talked about how raw he is in every way and how excited they are to get him while he's so fresh that they can even mechanically change flaws in his skating (not just 'get buffer get faster").

And that's why Clague strikes me as a Keith skillset. I know I said that about Cam Dineen as well, but the ways they make contact are similar to how Voynov was still effective against big forwards...hell when he was in position, Voynov was one of the best I've ever seen (karlsson does this when he's on, too) at simply "squeezing" in between the guy and the puck, making contact, and coming away with full possession (compared to Doughty who obliterates the puckcarrier).

Moverare has an ugly stride, just oozing bad technique. Maybe he grew too fast or something. But hey, you can't fix stupid, but you sure can fix skating.

The way he moves his feet kind of reminds me of Norstrom. I'd never expect him to hit that kind of skating level, but if the staff can get everything working together he's definitely got some promise.
