GDT: Development Camp Scrimmage

I heard again that this Buddy Robinson kid looks great out there. I think it has to do with playing with Pagaeu, but he's a big kid with a high potential.

I was impressed with Robinson from day 1 of this camp not just because he is huge (you can't miss him) but because of how fast he is for such a big guy. He isn't overly physical but he does hit & get involved in the play. He reminds me of Greening but I'm told he has better hands, we'll see. I could see him get a callup if he has a good start in Bingo & starts to put some pts up. I believe it was only today he played with Pageau, Robinson has done well on his own all camp long but Pageau does help.

Can anyone give me a low down on how Prince as been looking in this camp? Also, I've heard that Puempel has been a tad disappointing?

Prince like Puemple hasn't had an outstanding camp but I can't say they have been dissappointing either, for some reason I didn't notice them a lot. I was expecting more from both but didn't see much from them. Prince carries the puck more & seems to shoot more than Puempel. Puemple seems to need someone to get him the puck & when he has it on his stick he has a very quick release as does Prince. Prince may be the better puck handler & Puempel may have a slightly better shot. I'm hoping they both play in the rookie tournament but we'll see.

The best team out there was team Gold.

Funny enough, it's Dunn and Kramer that did most of the scoring. They both like to crash the net, compete hard and look like players that would be fan favorites, I'm really excited about these two guys. I did not see him score but Ceci was controling the puck for the team most of the time. Lazar was OK, he didn't stood out from the group but he scored on the two shoot-out opportunities he got.

Team blue won because of Conacher and McCormick. These guys scored at least 3 goals after a nice give-and-go. The winning goal was scored by Dasilva after a great tic-tac-toe passing play started by Conacher and McCormick.

I thought Prince, Pageau and Zibby looked better than everybody else but were stuck with bad teams.

Other Standouts:

Wideman: Good skater, had a great camp last year, he was solide again but the offense wasn't there this year.

Gagnon: Probably the best player on Team White after Prince. Scored a goal and made good offensive plays. Also had a borderline dirty hit in the first game.

Robinson-Claesson: Big stay-at-home D's tends to look good in these kind of mini tournament. Just like Sdao, Blood and Cowen before them, they looked really solide for Team Red.

Nobody has mentioned the goaltenders. I thought they all looked pretty good. Especially Hogberg who did not allow a single goal until the final game.

Just a small correction, Robinson plays RW, he is not a defenceman. I liked Hogberg too from day 1, he continues to remind me of Lehner.

All I've heard about Prince is that he had a great camp.

It's development camp however, and I'm not even the slightest bit interested in talking about disappointments...unless we are talking about slackers. Most of them have barely been skating, if at all, prior to this camp.

I personally thought Prince was one of, if not the best player on the ice today. He really carried his team.

From watching our prospects who haven't yet played in the NHL, Lazar and Prince are the one who are a sure NHL regulars in 1 or 2 years. They have the speed and the complete all around game. Their real strength lays in their skating ability and their speed.

At best : top six wingers, 50+ points with a 2-way game
At worst : great 3rd line wingers

I really like what I hear! :) As mentioned in another thread, I will keep constant updates on both Högberg and Wikstrand during the season, as I watch each game Mora IK plays.

Oh, that was not dirty. :D

I hope he gets a shot at staying in the organisation. If Murray wants Olympiques defencemen from a couple of years ago, he should think about trying to find <- this guy back. After Labrie and Deslauriers (and they're taken) left, JánošÃk was unquestionably the best one. He was better Gagnon.

Were you there? Sitting with Joe Miner?

Or maybe you're Joe Miner....:amazed:

funny because his game is a lot like boro's. i trust claesson out there more than boro though. no swedish bias. he finds himself out of position less because he's not all aggressive all the time. he's still physical and has a nasty edge (and really likes to lay people out along the way a la boro), but i think he is more defensively sound, more disciplined, and has a better breakout pass. boro, in my opinion, is faster, meaner, a better fighter, and has shown more in the offensive end.

really liked claesson's first north american pro season.

Boro is a great positional player. Urban legend about his aggressiveness taking him out of position is made up by people that just have something against him (whatever that is).

He was top 5 in the AHL in +/- last year without the benefit of playing in front of Lehner. He is also always matched up against every other team's best players. Also one of the best PK'ers in the AHL. I don't think being a bad positional player gets you that.

i don't have something against him. i don't have anything against any of our players. not one.

him getting out of position is something i observed while watching about 25 of the games he played in last year. i have claimed before that i have terrible memory, and if i don't focus on something with almost all of my attention, my memory gets fuzzy quickly. boro's play is one of those things, an observation i kinda made in passing, so i could very well be wrong

what i can remember is him playing too aggressively along the boards and passes being made. or him playing too aggressively up the ice and the play going the other way. it rarely ended up in goals against, and it didn't happen that often, it's something that, if i remember correctly, happened often enough that i made a note about it. all i'm saying is it's something that he needs to work on to succeed at the next level, not that he's a bad player.

that being said, claesson is safer in his own end than boro (again, not that boro isn't someone i trust in our end, claesson is just safer). he's also less likely to take a penalty. while aggressive, claesson lets up more and has better stick work. he is less likely to take offensive risks or rush the puck, which means boro has been more effective in the offensive end. risk taking isn't necessarily bad, even if you fail. boro has the ability to get back and help cover up for mistakes he makes in the offensive end, meaning it's okay that he takes them.
