Prospect Info: Development Camp ‘23

At the rink today. Only skill drills so while interesting, unfortunately no game situations to get a better idea. Most of the popular names previously mentioned looked as advertised.
Some kids that stood out to me (today) were Poitras, who made the skill drills look easy. Also while not one of the best, the late 04 Smith surprised me as a big but pretty smooth 6'4" LD.
Again, no hockey played so tough to judge on just skill drills.

Do it for Johnny!

He looks fine. Some people are just cut.
It's not about looks , there are exceptions but there are precious few people who can maintain a body fat level of 5.5.

Not even bodybuilders maintain that low % of body fat year round. That is a a temporary thing 6 to 8 weeks, nada mas.

Your testosterone levels plummet at that level. Most bodybuilders are enhanced so that's not a concern for them , 5.5 is not a natural bodyfat %. When you body fat is that low your body naturally goes into defense mode. It stores fat as a reserve. When body fat is that low your metabolism short circuits. It defends against starvation. It then burns calories at a lower rate to prevent starvation. Are you understanding what I am say. Either,

1) that body fat % is way off
2) the athlete is enhanced
3) this is a temporary level (like bodybuilders when in contest shape) and even then ........most of them are enhanced.
4) This is a freak of nature ( very unlikely)
5) this is someone heading for a severe crash ( again , not likely that someone at this level doesn't already know what I have just went into detail about,)

Draw your own conclusions , I know what I know. I have been in weight training for almost all my life. I know how it works.

This is it exactly, gotta wonder about player that is so focused on getting to a bodyfat level that is not beneficial to him.
He would be way better off if his bodyfat level was in 12-15% range. He'd have more energy , the extra weight shouldn't hinder him and would actually benefit him. Again maintaining a 5.5% is very hard , odd thing to focus on IMO.

2 things

1. I’m really holding onto that langenbrunner stock extra tight after the reports on his skating and this tweet. I feel like it’s natural to read about prospects and make assumptions, and I’ve watched a grand total of .5 Harvard games but I have high hopes for him.

2. Lohrei looks real tall in every pic.

Obviously I didn’t attend and don’t have any firsthand experience, but I’ve read that Lohrei has been far and away the best prospect at camp.

Really encouraging if true

Just got back from attending with two of my girls. First time at DC in probably 5 years. Thoughts on players below:

Lohrei - A man among boys. Easily the best player out there. Exactly what you want to see from a top prospect. His skill level is impressive. Not sure how ready he is in the defensive zone, but the physical tools and skills are all NHL ready. We'll see him in Boston this year.

Poitras - Definitely skilled, but not close to NHL. He is somewhere on a continuum of Zach Hamill to David Krejci. Does not stand out all the time, but really makes slick plays on a regular basis. Has jam and goes to hard areas and comes away with the puck.

Lysell - I was favorably impressed. I'd estimate he's close to a legit 5'11. He and Poitras are about exactly the same height. Lysell has a strong build though, like Marchand. I think he will challenge for an NHL roster spot because physically I think he's close to ready. I don't see a prolific scorer though. He does not really fill the net with goal or assists. I think he needs to be molded into a two way player because I see a guy in the 45-55 point range.

Duran - Just looks like a hockey player out of central casting - perfect build, strong skating, good skills. Just nothing stands out. 90% of making the NHL is hockey sense and he is nothing special there.

Pelosi - Definitely got my attention. Has that prototypical third liner style.

Brunet - Very skilled defenseman but looks one dimensional, like a Jon Moore.

Jellvik - Much improved from what I saw at BC. Still, not enough creativity to be more than an AHL player in my book. Like Steen with less jam.

Gasseau - One of my favorite prosects so I was hoping for a bit more, but this was not the perfect environment for him, especially the 3x3 which favors waterbugs. Better in the 5x5, he can really cover a lot of ice with those long strides and he is strong in hard areas. Still a favorite prospect.

Harrison - I was ready to dog him a bit but he had some decent plays in the scrimmage that showed deft touch. Not sure what his schtick would be at the NHL level.

Locmelis - Expecting a bit more from him. Some nice plays overall, but still looks underdeveloped physically which surprised me.
