I thought he was just about to resume skating and still not close to returning. At least he hasn't participated in team practice yet.

He skated with the team today, but he won't be playing tonight. Keefe said he will likely be ready for Game one.

I expect the Wings to dominate, just to show how overpaid and overrated our core 4 are.

The Habs did it on Monday by coming back from being down 2 goals.

That wouldn't show anything because it's pre season, unless there is an injury nothing that happens in these games matters.

As much as I like Minten getting the chance, part of me feels a more assertive and confident coach would have already sent him packing with a good feeling about his performance this preseason. If we're serious about Nylander running his own line, he needs reps. What better time than now? Even in the absurd long shot of Minten making the team, we've seen this movie before. He's only 19. Keefe will lose confidence after about 5 games and then we'll have Willy getting those reps in games that potentially count against our record.

Not trying to doomer post, I'd just like to see Keefe's actions carry the same conviction as his words. This communicates to me that his instinct is to scramble back to the safety net of a stacked top 6 after one sloppy preseason game against the Habs.

Tonight in the official make or break night for Minten who should get tested early and often in all situations.
I would hope this is simply giving him one more NHL game as a reward for his good effort at camp, and then they will send him back to junior for one more year of development. Anything else would be a big mistake.

Potentially! That really does seem Very keefe. Refers back almost always! Or maybe Minten has just been that good along side Knies and Domi looks like a top 6 player and this is just the best configuration.
It’s hard to know with Keefe

I agree, one more to boast his confidence, spring board to a fast start with his jr team and pick up some momentum to rep Canada at the WJC.
It would be nice if Minton and Cowan made the WJC team.

You really think so?

I could be dead wrong, but I think he's made the big team.

I honestly don't think there are any better options (cap & ability).

We'll see...

Has McMann played any preseason games ? Seems like I'm hearing his name for the first time

Why do you have what is clearly the 4th line listed as the 3rd line?

Wow, this is Matthews 9 season and only made it past round 1 once

It is his 8th I believe.

A top 5 player of all time when things are done currently has missed the playoffs in almost 40% of his seasons, and has won 4 rounds in total and never seriously gone a cup run in 8 seasons... it is a team game.

If they aren’t playing Cowan anymore why not send him back to the nights

Think he will get in one more time, but also, it is probably good to just be in a pro atmosphere while they are training harder to start the season and have all the professional resources. I am sure he will go back home with tons of knowledge on how to round out his game.

I love that we are keeping some of our top prospects up.

This is also the first year he may not be the youngest full time forward. With Liljegren becoming full time last season, Matthews is no longer the youngest full time player on the Leafs.
