Ya because you reset the timelines like I already pointed out.
Which other teams in the league say there rebuild timelines start over, when hiring a new GM. I can’t think of any teams.

September 7th, 2021: Senators GM officially announced "The rebuild is done. Now we're stepping into another zone" LOL!

Drafted #7 last year and shaping up to be another bottom 10 team this season! "rebuild Is DONE!" Soon you'll be shouting from the rooftops to start another rebuild:laugh:

I think Red Wings has the worst situation in the league currently. No superstars forwards, no one to be excited on offense from that draft picks, terrible coach. It's very bad. As a Red Wings fan, I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Ive debated with wings fans a lot over the years as a Sens fan. And I wont dunk on them like I could, because I actually do feel bad for them. Especially if they dont get a top pick again this year.

I will say this, two things can be right at the same time. First, they have been very unlucky in the draft lottery (as we have, but they got it even worse).

Second, the Yzerplan has always sucked and its mostly because they didnt draft well at all, imo. Not before him and not after hes been there in charge. It feels likes hes building the CBJ lol. Who and what are they waiting for in the pipeline lol, there is no hope.

They have missed on a staggering amount of picks since 2017, and had no surprise breakout players (like a Batherson, Pinto or Peterka). No assets that turned into core players (like a Norris or Tage Thompson). No pleasant surprises at all. That is the answer to everything.

They also didnt make good use of their best assets when they had the chance (peak Larkin, Bertuzzi, Zadina) and made excuses why they were at a disadvantage when compared to other rebuilding teams like the Sens, who traded everyone worth something. But instead we debated seriously that Bertuzzi was as good as Tkachuk back in the good old covid days here on hfboards......

I like Buffalo's roster and young players soooooooo much more than Detroit's, and yet Im not sure who gets better first. Detroit still has the power to attract mid tier players and doesnt feel fully tainted yet. But I cant see how this gets better for them until it gets a bit worse first. They so desperately need a Celebrini type player to build a roster around imo...

They need multiple impact forwards first (young stars) to have a legitimate future, imo.
As a Wings fan, it's painful but this is pretty accurate. Completely blowing up the rebuild at this point and starting over would get us to contention quicker than letting Yzerman/Draper try and turn it around. It wasn't a great situation for Yzerman to step into, and he's done great with his 1st round picks, but everything else (rounds 2-7), free agency, timing, etc has failing marks.

Agreed. I have no idea what they imagine this team will look like in 2 or 3 years if they want to keep "going for it". But honestly, its not good right?

Blow it up and your really no further behind towards contention imo.

And it's possible Illitch said that they need to stop tanking in which case it is what it is. As another poster said, I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel either. ASP is a great prospect, but other than that, there isn't anything special about the prospect pool. And we have the 6th oldest roster in the NHL. This team looks like it should be entering a rebuild, not the middle of year 6.

If it comes to a full rebuild then Yzerman has to be scared for his job, no doubt. Doesn't mean its not best for the franchise, it's just the more obvious and sure way to become legitimate.

I just dont see how they can get there with Larkin and Raymond. Its just not going to be remotely close to enough. Thats a cup winning level second line duo for sure - but Detroit is legitimately down two super star level players right now on their way to being a real contender. But those dollars are gone, and they might be paying too much for not enough up front, especially with Debrincat in the mix.

They have so many dollars tied up in useless, stop gap kind roster fillers that its obvious that they need to sell now while its still possible to recoup some value from these pieces of theirs.

I actually think Yzerman's failure in Detroit is bad karma from his weird departure from Tampa. He landed in an enviable position there, and he quit midstream because... why?

Anyway, former franchise-type players coming back to be GMs is dangerous. See: Kevin Lowe, Trevor Linden, etc. The only successful one so far might be Sakic.

The coach and GM stink, but the players are also overrated and just not as good as Wings fans act like they are.

Don’t even think there’s potential there, this is what it is. Oh well. Blow it up and start again.

This thread is 10 years too late...
Unless it refers to some more recent events, but then... If this is downfall, when was "upfall" then?

Bottom feeding team icing uninspiring prospects... and lose. SHOCKING!

More at 11
They were playing their Belleville goalie, other 2 are injured. After changing time zones on a b2b, losing time and starting less than 24 hours.
so not really SHOCKING.

Bottom feeding.? Wild card team 🤣
Of all people who should be throwing stones in glass houses, that’s gold dude.

It is indefensible to continue forward with Lalonde at this point. Other roster changes need to be made to shake up the player side. The Wings have flat out quit on the coach. Larkin’s postgame was stunning in terms of how lost he looked.

Absolutely agree. When Laldone wasn't fired after that west coast road trip (when everyone, and I mean everyone, was certain Fester was going to be the first coach fired) and wasn't... that set a clear signal Yzerman fully intends on tanking this season.

There is absolutely no question in my mind that Yzerman is using this opportunity to get a lottery pick.

I'm fine with that, but I wish Yzerman would do a presser and say "we plan on sucking this season", but then again GMs don't do that. He drew out his plan and explained it back in 2019 and he is clearly sticking to it.

I feel bad for season ticket holders.

Saying the red wings roster is mid, is an absolute insult to mediocre bubble teams like the Sens. Yzerplan advanced stats are a mirror image of Chicago.

Could James Hagens turn this franchise around? As a Wings fan, I feel 'owed' a top pick!

One team is "[*3 years ago] rebuild is officially DONE!" vs "we are rebuilding". You'd think you would have learned by now not to bet on OtTaWa. Hilariously, 2 weeks ago you were trading your captain.

As opposed to Pittsburgh, who is in the position Detroit was in in about 2015 or so...

Is this thread about the DETROIT RED WINGS or just a bunch of of narsastic "yeah-buttism's"?

Just discuss the state of the DRW rebuild...the product on the ice...the prospects and the decisions made/avoided and thats it
