He could have traded guys like Walman and Hronek for other good young players.

He did trade picks for Debrincat. Hasn't had the impact of Miller and Mcdonagh.

His trades in Detroit haven't been anywhere near the same calibre as his trades in Tampa. Maybe that says more about the rest of the hockey management groups than it does about Yzerman.

"He could have traded Walman for another good young player." No, apparently he couldn't have. Unless you're actually suggesting a single team in the league was offering that and he turned it down so he could give up a 2nd.

You can criticize the move and deservedly so, but this statement is just ignorant.

"He could have traded Hronek for another good young player." Uhh he kinda did? They got a pick, swung for the fences, and currently are looking like they hit a home run.

"He did trade picks for Debrincat. Hasn't had the impact of Miller and McDonagh." Funny how your narrative was "He could've gotten other good young players out of Walman and Hronek", but in a situation where he swapped out Bertuzzi for Debrincat, your narrative suddenly changed to "Well he hasn't had the impact of Miller and McDonagh."

And by the way, yes, Debrincat has had a bigger impact in Detroit than Miller did in Tampa. Miller didn't truly breakout until he went to Vancouver.

Sieder is already 25 next season.

Just wanted to highlight this point.

Can you highlight how a person jumps from age 23 straight to age 25????????? Or is that just Detroit hockey players that have that ability?

So you're saying he won't be 25 at any point next season?

Redundant point.

If i say he'll be 24 and you say 25, then we'll be both be correct. With the small detail that he'll be 24 for like 90% of the season.

Who is most correct? It's just a moot point tbh.

By the time the important part of the season rolls around he will be 25.

Red wings fans probably forgot playoffs exist so I understand the confusion. 🤣🤣🤣

If Wings start tanking now it's basically telling Larkin he has spent his career and part of his prime with a team that hasn't been able to build anything around him. Im not saying that it shouldnt be done, but if Wings start tanking now and selling players, at 28yo if i was Larkin i would say "Trade me right f***ing now."
How long is he signed for? 6 more years?

Correct, a lot of players start the season one age and end the season a different age.

Sure, exceptions always exist. Detroit could break the trend but unless there's signifcant roster overhaul, I wouldn't bet on it.
Detroit's actually going to have significant roster overhaul though. That's not even debatable, it's going to happen.

So where are the other 12 roster players coming from? You think the Red Wings are going to pump out like 6 quality NHLers in the next 2 years from their prospect pool?
6 quality NHLers? If that happens they'll be a cup contender. Lower your bar.
They'll replace depth pieces (aka trash) like Petry, Holl, Gustafsson, Motte, Fischer, Copp etc. with far more talented players like Sandin-Pellikka, Danielson, Brandsegg-Nygård etc.
There will be growing pains, but talent level will increase - not debatable.

UFA and trades will likely be used to bolster areas of the roster that don't have immediate solutions from within.

Yeah. I'm the biased one. Not the Red Wings fans that thought 91 points was the real Wings last year.....

Keep drinking the kool aid. 😎
But they had 91 points. That was real. It happened.

They are a different team this year.

Red Wings are bottom five in possession. They will not be contenders with 6 above average NHLers added.

They are hot garbage, and you think adding 6 rookies over 2 years will help that? Highly unlikely.

Again, why is the bar "contenders"? Who is saying the Wings should be winning the cup 2 years from now?

Yes, replacing the 6 worst players on the roster and bringing in 6 above average NHLers would make a MASSIVE difference. Heck replacing Petry with a bad NHLer would make Detroit a much better team.

Everything will work out in Motor City as long as Kris Draper gets his hand shaken before the daily 5 p.m. massage.

Again, treating the first player of the rebuild turning 25 as a window closing instead of just beginning to open is just so HFBoards and I'm disappointed in myself for being surprised

Not to mention that by all hockey standards, MO's 25 year old season isn't until 26-27 anyhow.

Your hockey age is the age at the beginning of the season. Youth and juniors will use age on Dec 31, NHL bumps it up 3 months earlier as players historically need to be 18 for training camp. Don't know if that is still true from legal stand point, but that is how draft eligibility works.

This thread continues to deliver, now on a period by period basis.
