next phase of the yzerplan is clearing out contracts that dont fit the future
View attachment 946289

This is ugly to look at. I am a big Yzerman supporter because I do think his approach of slow and steady is the correct way to get the Wings back to relevancy but his UFA work is hot trash lately. Some of the guys can bounce back and save some face but regardless, there is not much inspiration coming from the guys who are the place holders unfortunately.

This thread has turned into an official Detroit Red Wings GDT on HF mainboards.
I dont know why so many posters care about the likes of OTT, BUF, and DET. Just let these fanbases argue among themsevles who will finish closest to a playoff spot. This is coming from a Sabres fan.

If Wings start tanking now it's basically telling Larkin he has spent his career and part of his prime with a team that hasn't been able to build anything around him. Im not saying that it shouldnt be done, but if Wings start tanking now and selling players, at 28yo if i was Larkin i would say "Trade me right f***ing now."

I do not think there is any "clearing out" required on the contracts that are expiring. Low paid guys mostly here. But I hope they keep Lyon. Can't ever have enough cheap goaltending.

The only contract on the list for this year that is addition by subtraction is Husso.

That's always the risk of the long rebuild. Florida went through it multiple times losing Jokinen, Bouwmeester, Luongo etc. Buffalo. Edmonton. Columbus. etc. Its especially bad when you are in an undesirable city.

Sieder is already 25 next season. The clock is ticking on getting competitive. Guys won't want to waste their whole careers in a no playoff city.
