While I do like Pulkkinen, I can't see why he is getting votes over SHeahan, Jarnkrok and the defenseman
First 3 were a lock.
This is where things start to get interesting. I can see a good case being made for all of: Sheahan, Jarnkrok, Ouellet, and Sproul over the next 4 spots.
Not that I think Marchenko should necessarily be in the discussion for #4, but I just don't see much separation between him and Ouellet (which I guess means I don't think Ouellet should necessarily be in the discussion either). I really like both, but I have Marchenko a tick higher, I think he has a little more upside.
Marchenko has impressed me more than any other D, when I've seen GR in person. But I have a hard time seeing how he fits into the Wings long-term plans? It's a bit concerning to me he's not getting a chance on the PP with the Wings, given how bad we need a big, mobile, RH shot to patrol the point on the PP.
Really? It's concerning to you that he didn't get PP time during his one and only game in the NHL?
Really?
Very interesting to me. Always thought Ouellet was a bit underrated on here and would become a solid two-way D that can eat minutes. Throw in the fact that he has leadership intangibles and has been captain, and there is a lot to like.
I will say that when I have seen Grand Rapids games live this year, Marchenko has impressed me more than any other D. But I have a hard time seeing how he fits into the Wings long-term plans? It's a bit odd to me he's not getting a chance on the PP with the Wings, given how bad we need a big, mobile, RH shot to patrol the point on the PP. I think if given Kindl or Lashoff's minutes he'd prove to be an upgrade in no time.
I like Marchenko over Ouellet now, but I definitely think in 3-5 years Ouellet will be the better player. I could be wrong, that's just a hunch.
I think people are being a little too optimistic and a tad short-sighted in regards to Sheahan, this stint has been impressive but it's only been 18 games. For all we know this could just be an adrenaline fuelled hot streak and he'd go back to being a #4 or #3 C.
I hope he keeps it up but I'll need more than a short stint to put him above Jarnkrok.
I honestly believe Marchenko will end up being an all star defenseman in the NHL and he will end up being the best out of all our prospects.

Sorry, just wanted to illustrate the fact that the two are very similar, and I think those things can be said about both. Each are reputed leaders, hard workers, two-way puck movers, and good in their own zone. Injuries derailed Marchenko's career, but I put him a a hair above Ouellet because he's a little bigger, a little more mobile, and, though I think it's often over-rated and really just a minor thing, he's right-handed.
Oh, you'll be wrong
Just curious, but what is the difference between the two that makes it appear Ouellet is in the Wings' long-term plans but Marchenko isn't? Ouellet has been talked about more over the years, but I think that's more a function of playing in NA and staying healthy (unlike Marchenko) than anything else.
All part of the fun in making these rankings/predictions/projections
I think the Marchenko hype is way, way over the top. He's good, but let's dial it back a bit to what he's shown so far.I honestly believe Marchenko will end up being an all star defenseman in the NHL and he will end up being the best out of all our prospects.

Yeah, exactly. There's just a bit of a gap between best defenseman in GR and best prospect/future all star.I liked him when he was still in Russia and in a lot of ways his game is better suited to NA. What he has shown so far is he is the best D-man on Grand Rapids.
