This will be an interesting look at where we are at. Detroit looks solid this year, and we have no idea what we've got. Our maybe third line center has one preseason game and maybe four nhl practices under his belt...and is three years from buying anyone a beer. At least we don't have to wait to see what we're like against a contender.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Call me out to lunch but I get a feeling Detroit struggles with this move to the East. I know a ton of people are going ahead and penciling them in to the playoffs in that division. In the words of Lee Corso: Not so fast my friend.

Boston is going to be definitively better, and I'd say Ottawa is likely to be better as well as they've been solid the past couple years with one of the youngest cores in the league. All comes down to if Montreal and Toronto are legit, and if Tampa puts it together this year. Detroit's forward corps is pretty sick but their defense is pretty damn pedestrian IMO.

Detroit looked quite scary at times in their first game... This is going to be a tough game to win.

I don't know......I just don't know. faith they say? hope? a win would be so huge for these guys. a loss, any loss, by one or a blow out will be the ****s. if so, I don't want to hear the same old line from Muller (with his glassy eyes), just a different tune would be nice. and yes, yes to me he hasn't shown much of anything yet since his arrival. he has been saying the guys "have had the opportunity to show what they've got". well now he does too.

the scouts and JR have had their draft and off season. Muller has had his training camp. they have selected their guys and they have worked on their systems and it's time to produce. no excuses. well..........., I guess there could be some legit ones but...........

and again, if not fully healthy do not play! it is a long season.

They scored all 2 of their goals in a 40 second span against the terrible Sabres. I'm not exactly shaking in my boots because of THAT performance. Datsyuk is surely going to embarrass someone tonight though.

losing the first game of the season is devastating? I guess our team is so fragile to ever recover. :shakehead

When was the last time we won a home opener, 2006?

I'm excited that the season is finally here, but not sure what i'm going to see from this team. They could be really good, or just really bad. I'm not that scared of Detroit. They are a good team, but I like our chances against them better than Flyers, who we seem to never beat. We've beaten Detroit in the past and their defense is pretty suspect as is ours. If we can keep Datsyuk in check and Cam actually plays like he's capable, this could be a close, intense game.

Here's to the start of a new season. :handclap:
