Holl+Veleno is not getting samuelsson.... not even close.

Veleno is likely not given a QO when hes sn RFA in 26.

I apologize, I don't know much about BUF's team as I never really considered us viable trading partners and as many have kind of stated here, we don't seem to have a lot of natural pieces that make a lot of sense?

I can't imagine it's a core piece from the Wings (Larkin, Seider, Edvinsson, Raymond) but everything else seems ...possible? I assume that is basically the same for you all outside of Power, Dahlin, Thompson, Tuch? (unsure)...

Samuelsson seemed like an odd man out given the unwillingness to move on from Byram, and filled a need, and from some of the opinions of him from bloggers.

I thought it was Byram, but that's not the point.
Dahlin, Power, and Byram play right side during the game. Depends on the situation. Dahlin started non-PP shifts on the right side quite a bit.

Any way you look at it, there’s no logjam of LHD because Buffalo just plays all LHD except for Clifton.

Samuelsson us not the odd man out
That's the logical flaw.
Sure anyone can get moved for the right price

Buffalo does not need more Fs unless they fit some role they are lacking

Buffalo still has others in AHL_/prospect pool of F coming up.

Wahlberg SWE and Helenius FIN are playing in WJC and Ostlund played last year for SWE. All 3 in Rochester and should play for sabres by 26/27. They have Rosen and a few others in Rochester at F

Their lines on friday was

Zucker-Thompson-tuch
Peterka-cozens-Quinn
Benson-Kulich-Krebs
Malenstyn-Mcleod-lafferty

Greenway on IR for probably after feb break. Hes a UFA

Zucker has played well but hes a UFA that could be traded

If buffalo is acquiring a F it would be a clear top 6 winger

Veleno might kick out Krebs from the line up but I dont see him replacing others

If they trade Zucker at deadline they likely call up rochester players to replace him

On defense its...

Byram'Dahlin
Power- bryson
Samuelsson-Clifton
Gilbert- Jokiharju

Jokiharju is s UFA this summer and someone they could move
They have Ryan Joh son a LD in AHL who is NHL ready

I think they try to sign RD Strbak after NCAAs, next year in AHL, then he replaces Clifton in RD for 26/27

What they are looking for is a RD who is under team control for 3 more years after this year who is nhl ready and is not 28+.

Krebs and Jokiharju are plsyerd they likely trade

Sure Power ,Byram, or Samuelsson could be traded but it would not be for futures. It would be a hockey trade.

Similarly they could trade one of Quinn, peterka, Benson, or Kulich

In moving players in both groups they would be looking for a top 6 C/W and a mid pair RD where both are U25.

Would something around Cossa+ for Byram make sense for Buffalo?
Why? They have Levi in rochester.
Ratzlaff starts ELC next year

Makes zero sense and makes the team worse not better. Why would we want a goalie that wont play and lose a top 4 defender?

Would you take Levi for Seider?

Huh, I'm really just asking a question? I'm not familiar with Buffalo's goalie situation.

Poster above you explained it well, so I'm not interested in making the case for why you should want Cossa or w/e. But Cossa is in a different pedigree than Levi, and Seider and Byram don't have equal value. So your counter question doesn't make much sense.

Huh, and I answered your question.

Your question didn't make much sense either. That was my point.

Why would we remove Byram who is playing in the 2 spot or a goalie who wont be starting in the NHL

You don't need to know Buffalo's roster to know it doesnt make sense.

How is Cossa a different pedigree? Homer much?

Yeah i believe Cossa has more value than Levi, I'm just gonna leave it at that.

And you didn't answer my question, you framed it as an insulting question.

You can believe what you want but thats 3 hockey outlets that rank Levi higher than Cosi and not just barely.

The Athletic also puts Levi ahead of Cossa so thats 4.

Point being we dont need a goalie prospect.

Different pedigree might have been abit of an overstatement from me. But I'd say that Levi's stock has fallen while Cossa's has risen quite abit this season.

But agree to disagree.

They have virtually identical ahl stats this year. Levi has fallen, a bit, because some (but very few Sabres followers besides the owner) thought he was ready for a 1b role in the NHL this year. He needs this year, and possibly half of next year of AHL seasoning. But he’s the future #1. Cossa isn’t worth the asset it would require given that he isn’t necessarily an upgrade over Levi.

Yeah you right you are smarter than all the outlets, scouts and The Athletic.

His stock is not rising in fact its gone the other way.

Levi is ranked 3-4 while Cossa is 7-9

Could it be something as simple as a hockey trade?

Samuelson for Holl+

Byram makes Samuelson odd man out on the left-side (Power, Dahlin). Samuelson is a physical, talented defensive D whose only 24, has 5 more years at 4.25M and solves the 2nd pair problem for the Wings with a young, LHD to play alongside ASP, speaks Swedish, etc. Seems like an obvious hole to fill for the Wings? Is a guy that was seen as critical for the Sabres and part of their core, but looks like he's been too injury prone and has kind of become redundant with the Byram trade?

Sabres get better fits by moving off from Samuelson who they seemed ready to trade off - take something back like Holl + Veleno. Wings get a potentially better 2nd Pair LHD to try to work with ASP next year, Sabres get a RHD with less commitment (1.5yrs left at 3AAV)

Or am I severely off in valuation? (not the most familiar with BUF)
when you have 2 paragraphs describing why it works for one team and nothing about why it works for the other....you kinda just know it sucks dont ya?....

Sabres and Red Wings are not a good fit. Primary pieces of interest from a BUF POV would be Raymond, Seider, Larkin, to a lesser degree Kasper. Maybe Petry if he came like real dirt cheap.
Now, if someone can come up with a reasonable proposal that features one of those players without including any of BUF absolute core pieces (Dahlin, Thompson, Benson) I'm listening for sure. Otherwise, I can't be bothered. So, chances are it's not happening. Or at least it shouldn't.
