The power went out at the Boston Garden during the finals in 1990. They had to suspend the game.
Boston fan here to recount this very story and to sympathize. The infamous "fog game" was 1988, but the Bruins/Oilers matchup was repeated in 1990, so the mistake's easy to make. (Yes, we lost both. No, YOU'RE crying.) The electricity went out, knocking out the cooling system. And, yes, in late May Boston DOES get hot.
For the record, they stopped game 4 tied at 3-3 in the second period, and moved to Edmonton to replay the game in its entirety in the slot previously scheduled for game 5. Every other game was bumped up by 1, basically keeping games as scheduled and appending an extra game in Boston if necessary.
Unfortunately it wasn't, as the Bruins lost in 4-0-1 in the series. But at least it wasn't a sweep.
I can see why they scrapped tonight's game. Detroit's going to Florida tomorrow - they can't start a game at 9:30, still be playing at 12:30, get showered, do interviews, and hop on a plane at 2 AM to check into a hotel room at...4 AM?
BTW, I don't know what a Bo Biscuit is, but I looked it up. Cheddar, AINEC.
