Proposal: DET - PIT

Tristan Jarry for Andrew Copp + Mrazek or Talbot.
We’ve seen what DET misses when Copp isn’t in the lineup. He’s one of the veteran forwards they likely keep. They also won’t be going with another coin-flip on average.

TIf they’re trading for a golaie, it’s likely going to be Demko.

How's that going to work?

They’ll send Talbot or Mrazek in the deal.

Demko was always going to be an option for the Wings in the summer of 2026. It’s where he wants to sign his next contract, if they’ll have him.

So if he ends up sharing the net with Cossa next year, they’ll find the right AAV (on a new contract) for him to finish his career in Detroit. The longer the contract goes, the less the AAV, as he’ll be a 1A/B in the beginning, and likely a backup towards the end.

Detroit has known this will be an option for the last couple of years. That if they can make something happen, it’s Demko’s choice.

He hasn’t asked out of Vancouver YET!! He likes playing there. He’s just NOT signing his next contract there, and with one year left, they may want to move him sooner now, and DET has a legit goalie to send in return with one year left as well. So whatever else DET sends, they’ll include one of those goalies.

Demko has always known with Detroit’s kids coming, it might not work out too. It’s what he would like though, and he’s ok sharing the net, and becoming the backup as the years go by too.

If it’s not Detroit, good bet it’s the Kings or Ducks. The Detroit thing has been very real for the last 2 years though. There’s other business interests at play. Let’s just say that.

Jarry is rebounding and if Dubas can redo the D into a better unit, the contract is not a killer. He can be moved with a solid year after next year if one of the younger goalies is ready for prime time. But I do think the Wings need scoring and to get into the playoffs, Pens are moving off a couple vets like Karlsson, maybe Rakell or Rust. Wings could benefit from one of the forwards and Wings give up a 1st for say Rust. Rakell costs more.

Say what now? They've already got the future in Dostal. Gibson is perpetually on the might be moved/won't be moved rumor mill, but even if he is moved they've got a couple of good/better than decent goalies down in the AHL. In what world would they want another goalie that seems to be injured even more often than Gibson (which is not an insignificant number in & of itself) & would also want a relatively high contract value as he'd think he's still starter quality but slowly moving to backup status ('he'd think' being the key words there...). In that case, keep Gibson & do the same (assuming he's willing to stick around now that the team seems poised to really turn the corner).

I mean sure, as a Ducks fan I'd love to see him over with the Kings...but that's not exactly a good thing.
