Sure. He's a guy who had top six potential and never lived up to said potential.

He has great vision and he's not that good at much else.

He's an alright third line center. I think people are throwing around the word "great" just because he had 50 (or less, maybe? I don't remember) points a few years ago.
 
I think he'll make a very good 3rd line center. So I fully expect him to play Brian Boyle's wing.

The problem with Brass as a 3rd liner is that he's not a checking line player. His face-offs are improving, but he can't be counted on to win a face-off when it's necessary.

He's not a player who can throw his weight around. He's tried putting on muscle, but said it slowed him down. He's also far too easily shut down by other team's checking line players.

Brass is most effective as a 2nd line playmaker who has wingers who he can get the puck. There were times when he and Nash were playing well together and they did have some chemistry.

Brass has played wing at various times, but he works best as a center. But when on a line with Umberger on wing, Umby was taking face-offs for him.
 
This is why I'm not a fan of Brassard. I hope he makes me eat crow- but he's not good enough to be a second line center, and he doesn't play good enough defense to be that prototypical third line center. He'll end up on Boyle's wing in no time.

Anyway, glad to have Brassard. He's a guy I've coveted for some time.
 
The part of this trade I like the least. I think Brassard, talent-wise, is built only to play in the top six, but he's just not consistent or smart enough to be a good top six player. He's a tweener that isn't really a good fit. He's got great skill, but he's not a good decision maker.

Wish we could have gotten a pick instead. Pursuing Burmistrov would have been better, too (which they may have, who knows?). He'd fit the same role, except he's younger, much smarter, and stronger defensively.
 
I see Brassard grabbing the proverbial brass ring in New York. Big city begging for a guy like him to break out. I see him on New York's top six by either the end of this season or the start of next season. Lots of talent, just couldn't put it together in Columbus.
 
For his own sake he better buy-in here to Tortorella hockey. Otherwise he'll be just another skill guy that can't hack it with this coach.

I liked Brassard, had him on my keeper league for a while but gave up on him last season. Hope he can put it together. If nothing else, he puts Boyle on the fourth line, and that is a win in itself.
 
Eh, maybe we could put him at 2C and sit Richards for a few games. This is about the time Richards heats up, but if Brass looks like Stu Bickel out there, we're ****ed.

Can you explain his play for us? Does he do this often (i.e. perform GODLIKE) and then revert to the norm? His passing is just unbelievable. Best on our team -- even better than Stepan. He's been pulling some moves like we haven't seen since Nylander was on the team.

I wonder if he just needed a change of scenery? I have no idea.
 
Tonights game aside, I think that Brassard is going to be the key to the season.

Provides this team with a legit offenively capable 3rd line center that knows hos to distribute and incorporate his line mates.

Not a saviour by any means, but he gives the Rangers that third line creativity we didn't have.

He's got creativity for the PP as well.
