umm. you think faceoffs impact a game more than skating?

seriously?

skating>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> faceoffs

I disagree. Dominating on faceoffs is more important.

A player may not necessarily be the "fastest" skater, but he can still easily control the game in other ways. IQ, knowing when to react or move, etc.

whats dominating? 60%? is any player in the NHL more than 60%?

What was stepan like 45% or something? 15% more faceoffs won in a game amounts to what. 3 more for him? 3 more faceoffs won in a game has more impact than being an elite skater?

Carl Hagelin never takes a faceoffs, but hes fast as all hell.

youre telling me youd trade hagelins speed for faceoff ability?

:help:

I'm one of Stepan's biggest critics but he had an above average post season even with the broken jaw.

That being said I'm still of the firm belief we will not win a cup with him as our best center. He's a prototypical 2nd center on a contending team. Feel free to dispute this all you want, but LA has 2 (arguably 3) centers better than Stepan and they've won 2 of the past 3 years. You need elite centermen to win in this league

As one of Stepan's biggest fans I see no problem with this. He's not athletic enough (unless he takes some major steps in the next 2 years) to be a first line center. Smart enough player but I don't mind him at all as a 2nd line center who can occasionally slot up.

Haven't looked at the numbers, but I feel like I saw Stepan winning more faceoffs than he usually does during the finals.

If stepan put on about 10-15 pounds of muscles and played with a tiny but more grit like he did wen he came back from his broken jaw against Montreal he'd be completely perfect as far as I am concerned... Love him as a player and a person. Always smiling great character guy for a team to keep it light hearted

If Stepan was more athletic he'd be a top 3 center in the league putting up 80 points before his 25th birthday with elite defensive skills.

As it is, he goes against teams best lines every game, controls possession, plays defense, and kills penalties. All while putting up close to 60 points.

He's still Patrice Bergeron-lite, but every day he gets closer to actually being Pat Bergeron. I guess your view on Steps depends on what you think of Bergeron as a 1C. I know I would perform some ungodly rituals to get Bergeron on this team, so there's my position.

Has to improve on faceoffs. It kills us in late game situations when we must won a draw to come back from a 1 goal deficit. He should spend 8 hours a day on faceoffs for a month.

No but the amount you can improve on faceoffs is much more than skating. As for skating you mostly are what you are at this point. Sure you can get stronger on your skates and such but he will never be fast. Faceoffs right now he is among worst in the league. With work he can become average to good. Lots of center start out in the league really bad on FO and work at it over the years and become very good. Boyle is one of those as well.

I like Stepan. Best home grown center this team has had since..... god I can't even say.

The last star level homegrown center the Rangers had was Jean Ratelle. You can cheat and count Marc Savard and Doug Weight, but we didn't keep either of those guys long enough for them to become stars for us.

Best part about it is he is only 24( in 2 days) he's still developing and ppl want to ship him off.. He's been playing against the best d pairs the past two year and he was I think 17th in points for centers this yr... Honestly I don't think u could ask much more from him at this point. Ya his skating is awful and his face offs need work but that's part of developing as a nhl player.. Ever center that comes into the nhl starts off bad at face offs it's a fact. And stepan has been working on his skating and I'm seeing a difference small as it maybe but he's only 24 let the kid get in his prime before you start throwing him in every trade. If we trade stepan I'm sure we will all regret it sooner or later
