If they ice a team with a lot of those types of guys, then a heavy is not needed.

I really want nothing to do with Clowe in the offseason. It has nothing to do with the type of game he brings and what I think of him as a hockey player. But this is a guy who has been banged up since we got him, plays a really rugged style, is 30 years old, and we've already heard what his ridiculous demands are. It's unfortunate that we gave up so many picks to get him and even more unfortunate that he probably will be out for a while with this concussion and not be able to help us. Still, if you let Prust walk last year based on his demands I see no reason to bring back Clowe based on age/injuries/asking price. Regardless of what we gave up to get him. It just doesn't make sense IMO.

Agreed. I see no point in giving up another 2nd rounder and handing this guy 3+ years. It has disaster written all over it.

Because Clowe is easily the superior player to Prust?

Pyatt is always a playoff guy. Sleepwalks through the season and then gets motivated. Same the last couple of years in Phoenix.

I disagree. Well not really since I obviously agree on Prust playing an antagonizing style of hockey and Dorsett being the better player. I just don't think fighting was what made Prust a valuable guy for us.

He doesn't have much for hands, but he's a very good skater. For a third/fourth line tweener checking player, he's pretty fast. He doesn't get all those shorties in 2010/11 without his speed.

I also think his positioning - offensive and defensive, was severely under appreciated when he was here. On offense he got himself in a position to play the puck, and in his own zone he always got in the passing lanes. He was a huge part of the reason why the FBP-line was so effective in their own zone, and why our pk was so good. The fact that he would also take on heavy weights not being a big guy himself was just a bonus.

I think the reason why he disappeared in the playoffs was his lack of puck handling ability, which got more noticeable when he got less space.
 
i would like to see clowe back with the rangers next season. but if they have to give up a 2nd rounder for that to happen...wow. that's a shame. it ain't happening. i doubt his contractual demands will be a problem. it's that 2nd rounder. yikes.

Hat tip to the Sharks. That was a great job of asset management.

Replacing Clowe w/ Torres has resulted in a better player, and got presumably two 2nd round picks + a 3rd and his replacement, Torres only cost a 3rd.
 
Hopefully this is the series(NY v. Bos) that Dorsett hits the back of the net, and Nash ofc.

True...but Boyle was a very good playoff performer last post-season and been good this post-season. We wouldn't have even made it out of the 1st round last season without Boyle.

I was specifically referring to the pending suspension. San Jose knew of his history when they acquired Torres. frozen rubber said it was good asset management to switch Clowe for Torres. I think we all knew it was only a matter of time before Torres had another Shanaban hearing.

And my guess, given his history and given the in-person meeting, it will be more than a FEW games.

And to add an asterisk to all of this, for what it`s worth, I think this hit, like the Gryba hit, was clean. But it won`t matter to this league.

That`s bull****. Who could have ever foreseen that Clowe would sustain two suspected concussions in a short period of time? It was only a matter of time before Torres was in trouble, of that I am certain...

We should probably discuss this in another thread rather than the Dorsett one, however. As far as Dorsett is concerned, I LOVE what I`m seeing.
 
Idiotic penalty in OT last night. The game was back and forth up until that point - Rangers were never able to seize any momentum after the penalty, and died a slow death in OT

A winger playing defense doing what most people would do?

The Rangers sucked in OT because they couldn't control the puck. It has been the same problem all season. They get the puck, attempt to chip it in and go get it, except, they weren't getting anywhere near the puck and it was turning right around and coming back towards Hank.

They just couldn't get out of their own zone they were intercepting the puck with ease. In the few instances we got in their zone it was one and out.
 
The good news is the Rangers did not play that well and were in the game, and if it weren't for stupid penalties would have won.
