Well, I voted for Evans as he can insulate him without destroying the 2 lines that is working.
Not sure we make him a favor by putting him with Laine and Newhook since those two don't produce like at all at 5-on-5

Evans has 2 goals in his last 42 games.
Armia has 1 goal in his last 24 games.

You're really doing a disservice to Demidov by putting him with two guys who can't put the puck in the back of the net.

Laine and Newhook had struggles as well, but at least they have a track record of scoring goals. Demidov could be the one who puts them back on the right track.

Then you're either asking Laine and Demidov to be part of your shutdown line, or you're not putting a line with Evans on it in defensive situations. Just do the rational thing and see if Demidov can get the second line going.
The shutdown line is the Dvo line at this point and we can use Evans with Kapanen and Armia to secure the win in the final 10 minutes

If there's big enough of a point buffer standing-wise, rest Armia and play Demidov with Evans and Heinemeune + pp1

Both lines get similar D-zone usage and face similar levels of competition, I'd say they're both "shutdown" lines.

It's an interesting question.

Newhook - Laine has been a trainwreck for most of the time. I'm not sure tasking Demidov with "fixing" this line is the best of ideas.

I proposed a Laine - Dvorak - Demidov line, but breaking up our veteran line right now seems out of the question.

What some of the posters proposed seems like the least disruptive move, namely planting Jake Evans as a support player between Laine and Demidov.

This is the right move to try first, then Id even give Kapanen a look at C between them before Newhook. Everything with him is a trainwreck.

The real sucker right here is that we lack a center.

Newhook Dach Beck Evans Dvorak

all of those are shouldnt be playing with Demidov

Id perhaps play Slaf with Laine and Newhook and put Demidov with Suzuki and Caufield to test it depending if we are 100% confirmed for playoffs , id rest some players icetime while trying Demidov
Slaf with Newhook and Laine makes 2 slow wingers with one small fast center. It's not well balanced. Newhook is fast, so is Demidov. They will be a good duo and Laine will compliment like for garbage goals, or stay at his spot waiting for the pass and shoot. One thing is sure is Newhook is constant with is the speed and stamina. But mostly we don't break the first line, they are well balanced. 2 speedy guys and one slower but a big guy.

Laine - Kapanen - Demidov

That's my darkhorse candidate for the playoffs

That's an interesting line. Seeing that Laine is a bit of a liability, MSL might want to put someone more responsible on that line. I don't think he touches the 1st and 3rd line not do I think he splits up Evans and Armia. I personally don't think Kapanen stays in the lineup if Heineman returns which I suspect he will. So default is Newhook

They get more offensive zone starts, which is generally what you do for lines you want to score. Dvorak's line starts more in the D-zone. Montreal needs more production in the minutes Newhook's line plays 5v5 and its frankly where you want Demidov to play as he acclimatizes himself to the NHL.

Which does not make it a second line. It's just that any other deployment of that trainwreck of a line would be insane.

They are an offensive exploitation line, but the true 2nd line on this team since February is Dvorak's:

Can’t say the Evans line is working that much either

I think Evans would be a better fit than Newhook, someone more stable better IQ and that can do all the dirty work. Especially if your going to play him with a pylon at 5 on 5 like Laine
Evans line can rotate between Heineman and Kapanen tho, it's a better fit defensively cus that lines job is to play shutdown minutes
