Trade Caufield to Anaheim for Mason McTavish.

You have your top 2 lines centers for years to come and wingers are much easier to acquire via trades or UFAs.

You could also Dach a last shot on the top line with Demidov and Suzuki and have Laine-McTavish- Slafkovsky on your 2nd line.
Ooooooh yeah

Like most have said, let's not overthink this...put him on the 2nd line with Laine/Newhook. TBH i'm not a huge fan of either Laine (on the 5v5) or newhook, but from what i've read Demidov can be the type of player that can transform a line and push his linemates to be better.

And for that reason i want him with Suzuki, he will surely help him get past the 90 pts mark and maybe even break the 95 mark which is a pretty big deal for a habs player

I'd put him with Laine and Evans. Fourth line hasn't been consistent enough for me to consider them tied at the hip, so I'm fine with Evans being the defensive consciousness while Demidov learns how to drive offense with an OTK linemate.

I liked what Kapanen was doing last night. The kid can win puck battles. But I think Newhook deserves a chance centering Demi/Laine before Kap.

Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovsky
Demidov - Newhook - Laine
Anderson - Dvorak - Gallagher
Kapanen - Evans - Armia

I would absolutely put Demidov on PP1, but it took 20 games to get Hutson there, so I'm not expecting it.

People that want to demote 37 goal scoring Cole Caufield from the 1st line and 1st PP are something. We can only hope Demidov has as much an impact as Cole when he arrives… separating Suzuki and Caufield is pure madness.
Obviously not understanding the time honoured principle of ‘leaving well enough alone’.

Demidov is Hutson on steroids though, Generational potential, certainly a generational hab player

You go all in

You 100% need to put him with Laine, if we're going to have any playoff success we NEED a 2nd line that can produce. I'd personally try Kapanen between them but I'm expecting it to be Newhook.

I would swap Slafkovsky for Laine on the left.
Slafkovsky deserve it more. Laine is completely useless, he can only do one thing well. Slaf and Caufield are so much better than Laine.

As soon as he's going to get targetted in the playoffs Laine will disappear.

5vs5 I agree. But Laine has 6 more goals than Slakovsky has point on the PP. He is a one of the biggest threat on the PP whether we like him or not.

Theres levels to this and Demidov is several levels above Caufield.

Do you think people said "We cAnT DeMOtE rNH hE JUsT haD 60 pOiNTs!"

Levels. Caufield knows. Were trying to win, not fall in love with players.

That continues to be wrong no matter how much you repeat it.

Laine is the better player, but he has been hampered 5 on 5 with his knee injury. He still creates chances to his linemates, they just don't score. Laine has played better than Slaf especially recently but I totally understand why Marty wants to keep the 1st line in that form, it works and allows Slaf the minutes and line mates to develop. Slaf played with Newhook for a few games too and disappeared like anyone else in that line.

But if you just compare the two as talents and what they have managed to achieve in the NHL and at what age, they're not close.

I think you just haven't really ever seen what Laine can do with good linemates or when healthy, and that's why this odd analysis.

Let him play a couple of games and earn his spot like Hutson did. I will wait to see how he does in the NHL before declaring him « several levels » above a player flirting with 40 goals and 70 points.

Your opinion is invalid.

You want him to play with Laine so he look bad.
