I'm so adamant about this because I keep saying over and over that all I get are vague feelings and preconceptions when people try to explain why they don't think DeKeyser has much of an offensive potential. And here you are again saying your notions are partially based on your eye test.
And then you accuse me of nitpicking my stats while you feel free to throw out all sorts caveats for Kronwall's stats.
I'm not trying to say DeKeyser is going to be the awesomest offensive defenseman in the world. I'm saying he's on track to be pretty good. And no one has shown me anything to think otherwise, other than vague feelings and preconceptions.
Well eye test is important. Stats can be misleading without context. Let's say a guy scores 4 goals in a season and 2 of them are lucky bounces or empty netters, it doesn't mean much next to a guy who scores 10 goals and they are all "good" goals.
And what caveat have I thrown out at Kronwall's stats, except him having an injury riddled first season with only 25 games (and the following two he missed substantial time as well)? And I showed he scored 7 ES goals on the second season he got play more than 1/3 of the games (and 15 points in 22 Playoff game on the same season to boot). I don't think it's a caveat to say that it hurt is point totals when he had some established, premier offensive blueliners ahead of him in the depth chart taking most of the prime offensive situation/PP time. DD on the other hand had a lot of time on the PP this year until Zid was acquired, and not a lot to show for it.
I too think DD is on track to becoming a great player, just not on the offensive side.He is 25 and never lit up the scoreboard at any level. On a truly contending d-corps he shouldn't be seeing much PP time, limiting his potential point totals. I think he will be a pretty constant 30P producer, which is fine when you consider how good he is in his own end.
