Patrik Laine at 5v5 through 7 games:

0 goals
1 assist

Team outshot 49-22 and outscored 5-1 when he is on the ice.

Woof.
That's like saying Tanev is bad because if you extrapolate the 2 minutes of pp time he gets per year he's on pace for 0 goals and 3 assists over 82 games.

He wasn't brought in to play defense and if all he does is score goals on the pp and he does that at a decent clip, that's great for him.

Terevainen was this way up until 2 games ago. He looked like a soft 3rd line guy who PKs and more closely resembled the Teuvo from the Hawks of yesteryear than the one who excelled alongside Aho in Carolina.

And then he went and put up 6pts in his last two games and we all love him again.

No, that sounds like the TT that left Carolina. Great complimentary guy that’s prone to extremely streaky play. When he’s on, he’s everything you could want. When he’s off, he’s basically invisible.

For Carolina, Aho and Svechnikov need to be better than they have been. The last few games seem like they’re starting to turn the corner, but it’s a rough stretch of games coming up, so we’ll see if they can continue.

Domi has picked it up as of late.

Through his first 22 games he was on pace for 0 goals and 18 points total (had a statline of 22gp 0g 6a) through the 70+ games he was gonna play.
Power of the amulet lol Soon as he endorsed it he's scoring. Tavares has been on fire all year, maybe there is something to it :sarcasm:

He’s starting to turn it around but Carter Verhaeghe had a pretty slow start this season and forgot how to score goals. Right off of signing his new contract

Shane Pinto has 6 points in 23 games.

Half of those are in his last 3 games though, so maybe he's beginning to turn that around...

What a horrible comparison, Tanev is a defensive defensemen, he isn't expected to contribute offensively.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has 4 even-strength goals in 31 games playing on Connor McDavid's wing.

He has 2 powerplay goals in 31 games playing on the PP with McDavid, Draisaitl, Bouchard & Hyman.
Hundred points two seasons ago. Wtf?

Elias Pettersson has been missing since the 2024 All star break. Had a 19 points in 13 game stretch recently but still can’t skate for shit and has been pointless last 4 games.

Most frustrating star in the league.
Might be the most over paid too

Seeing as there was a big blowup about him recently, I had Casey Mittelstadt's stats handy.

A little better lately, but only 4 assists (0 goals) in the last 14.

Pretty sure that's exactly the poster's point: You judge Tanev by his defence, just like you judge Laine by his offence. It's plainly ridiculous to claim Laine is having a bad season when he has 6 goals in 7 games – impressive whether they were scored on the PP or bounced off the ref's ass.

Why doesn’t everyone just score at his rate on the PP then if it’s so easy and less valuable? Pretty sure it counts just the same

And before someone comments “what happens when powerplay opportunities dry up in the playoffs”. That is a myth
