His goal scoring dried up in the second quarter but I've been really impressed by his overall game

I don't agree with those that say he's useless if he's not scoring

I expect a big second half with a healthy Kane on the other side of the ice

In part because they put Perron with Larkin and DeBrincat with Compher.

Maybe with the rest after the all-star break we'll see DeBrincat - Larkin - Kane as a line. It would be awesome for Detroit to have a dominant first line for the first time in more than a decade.

DBC got fed his breakfast , lunch and dinner.
Haha gotta love the heart but it was almost comical because there was such a reach advantage. Would of landed a few bombs except he couldn't reach his face. It did spark the team though.

DBC has been great this season. Hustles every game. He's been providing offense on a much more consistent basis. The Kane/DBC connection isn't horribly telegraphed this year. DBC and Ray have a special connection the PP.

He tries on D even though its still not a strong suit for him just because of his size. Love to see him catch a few guys off guard this season and just level them, but he is going to struggle along the boards if he gets pinned in long term.

Right now I think he'll get replaced in a couple of seasons just because we have a lot of small skilled wingers in the system, but he obviously really likes Detroit and is someone I could see taking a bit of a discount to stay on the team, especially if we are competing by then.

Ppl aren't going to like this but between this summer and next it yzerman deals him in a blockbuster trade I'd have 0 problem

I can't imagine for the life of me hes going to give debrincat 7-8 years next deal and I can't imagine debrincat taking 4 again

We'll likely have raymond larkin seider edvinsson locked up long term, possibly kasper if he keeps going this way by summer 26

+ all the kids coming up soon , I just can't see him being here when his contracts up

Seems unlikely at the moment. The way i see it, Cat could take a hometown discount to stay. Team is on the rise and i bet, he don't want to leave just to get an extra million somewhere else.

It's not an extra million. If yzerman gives him 8.75 x 4 years or he can get 9.25 x 7 years it's like 30 mill

I just can't see him getting a longterm offer here

More like if he can get 9.25x7, after a new 4 year deal he'll be 33. Still time to sign new contracts and after everything when he is done, the money he has left to the table is not in tens of millions.

I hope Cat sticks around after his deal. Dont really care about his size, I imagine by the time his deal is done the team likely doesn't have Kane and Berggren around. Not both anyways. If he continues something close to this level of play, give him an extension. He plays tougher than 90 percent of the team, wants to be in Detroit and is extremely talented and tenacious. A treat to watch every game this year.

Don't know if Cat will ever get the mega deal like that as far as lots of term. Teams are always going to be nervous about a break down due to his size. Add in, this is where he wants to be, it would be surprising to see him leave if we still want him.

His improvement in consistent scoring this year has been wonderful compared to the hot cold of last year.

What are his scoring totals under fester and under koala?

Between Cat, Larkin,Razor and Mo these were all fantastic contracts done by Yzerman. Hopefully he learned a lesson on the Copp's,Compher's Holl's and Chariot's of the world. July 1st just say no. Don't overpay due to the market.

The likely hood of him taking another 4 year deal and not seeking a 7-8 year deal on his next contract is slim to none

We'll see what happens

Fester: 116 GP 40G 52A 92P
McLellan: 25 GP 14G 12A 26P

If you break it down to just this year:

Lalonde: 34GP-13G-12A-25P (11PP, -12,) .73 PPG
McLellan: 25GP-14G-12A-26P (12PP, -1) 1.04 PPG

Scoring could be attributed to a bit of a hot streak but the +/- is really interesting. I'd be very curious who DBC shares his ice time with from d perspective both before and after the coaching change. If this coincides with having Ed on the 2nd pair.

Love the Cat. He has brought his A-game very consistently this year and I'd argue he's been slightly better overall than Larkin has, behind only Raymond at forward

Most underrated part of him - how good of a PP net front guy he is. He can float past the crease at the perfect time for a screen, but then he's also in his goal line left side office either sniping, passing, or finishing greasy plays. His goal scoring instincts are awesome and part of why he's able to overcome that size disadvantage. The hustle defensively has been a cherry on top

Other goal scorers that have the size advantage on him sometimes struggle with consistency is because they don't find more ways to score than just picking corners or shooting off the rush

I thought he was good but had some bad luck often last season, like lots of posts and crossbars. This year even under Fester the consistency has been pretty darn good. Now under McLellan he's over PPG, to no surprise

Your loss has been our gain, Ottawa! He sure loves playing here :yo:

It is definitely a wait and see kind of thing, but he could have easily gotten a 6-8 year deal when Yzerman signed him if he had been willing to consider other trade destinations. He clearly strong armed Ott into dealing him to Detroit.

Heck Ott probably would have given him a longer and better deal.

He seems very family motivated, and now he has young kids to boot. Now if Detroit offers him 2 mil off a 30/40 goal season I'm sure he'll move on but I could see him leaving money on the table to have the lifestyle he wants.
