It's wild to finally have an elite #1 defenseman. We havent had anyone close to his skill level on the backend since I started watching the team in 2003-2004. It's ultra rare to have a talent like him on the blue line. To all you younger fans- enjoy it! Before you know it, we'll be hanging his number up in the rafters.

hometown discount may be 13M per year. No reason for him to sign after this year. Follow it up with another elite season

I could see him receiving a max contract if he goes to RFA

I'm sure this was written with Dahlin's blessing and that most/all of it is even true, but it's tackey to put the "please buy tickets" button right at the end of the article

I'd still find a way to be in Buffalo tomorrow night if I could though!
Its on NHL.COM I don't think it has anything to do with Dahlin. Its their NHL website.

RJ ain't dead yet...... just retired! LOL
Never said he was dead but when it comes to his play by play there isn't much difference between dead and retired when it comes to hearing him call plays. He had to sit through 15 years of garbage to retire now is unfortunate.

he's not going anywhere and will be locked into an 8 year deal shortly after we are able to.

lol. Not for nothing, but I started watching Sabres games in the early 80's. You are also the younger fan. :)

I get that people who have only been watching for 10-15 years think of some of the current Sabres as the best they have seen, but I assure you, there have been some absolute hall of fame talents that have suited up blue and gold and put on just as talented displays. Don't forget them.

Fowards? Sure. Defenseman? Mmm Housley, that's about it. Dahlin will be Top 3 in Sabres defenseman scoring by the end of next year. He will be 23.

Is scoring really your only measure? If so, then we can agree that Dahlin will go down as one of the highest scoring defensemen in Sabres history, and given enough time could catch Housley. Though if you only consider scoring, then Rasmus Ristolianen is the sixth best defenseman in Sabres history. What about the flow of his beautiful locks? That has to be the cherry that puts it over the top.

You just described half of their years :sarcasm:
Yeah.... Ya gotta expect ups and downs. Cycles of competitiveness. Looking back, I knew the franchise wasn't moving. And the scoreboard could be fixed. And criminals would receive their due justice. The team was still pretty much watchable. (Post lockout was fantastic!)

But reality for me is that the recent tank period years mixed in with the Eichel follies were just the worst.

I was pretty much doubting whether the Sabres would come out of this latest debacle.

No his overall play is my measure when you consider which he would be THE ONLY Sabres defenseman ever to win the Norris. I think nostalgia is blinding you from realizing you are watching what could end up being the best defenseman to ever lace them up for us.

Name your player. Who is it?
And its definately not Housley
Cause he fits your pointz only description more than anyone.

Yeah, Dahlin will go down as the best sabres defenseman of all time. As long as Krueger doesn't come back.

To me, the best all around defensemen in Sabres history were Mike Ramsey and Jim Schoenfeld. They scored, they assisted, they hit, and they defended like few others.

Bill Hajt was solid offensively, but was maybe the best defender we ever had. His +320 career is #24 amongst all NHL players in history.

You say not Housley, yet he is the best comparable to Dahlin, and his PPG well outpaced Dahlin's career so far.

If you want to say Dahlin appears to be on his way to being one of the top 10 defenseman in Sabres history, I can get behind that. However, if you want to declare a 22 year old defenseman in his 5th year, who has not won anything yet, the best defenseman in Sabres history? Not a chance.

I never watched them play consistently, so there's nothing for me to forget, unfortunately.

On his way to being top 10… how generous of you
