At 645 ish he says Scuds won't give them a number

If that is the case, then it's fairly obvious that his agent is going to take him to free agency. By not naming a number, they're gaining leverage and are hoping that Lombardi will just keep bidding against himself until Scuderi hits the market.

At least we get a positive prognosis on Mitchell. If he's 100%, then the Regehr signing could be considered a very wise move as he will be replacing Scuderi on the roster. I'd rather have Scuderi, but if he's going to cost more than what he was earning, then I'd prefer Regehr at $3M.

The rumor on Scuds is that he is looking for $4m per for 5 years. How that works out is anyones guess but that is what he is looking for or so it is said.

5 years for a 34 year old defenseman at that price? That's too much. Well, thanks for your four years of service Scuds, you were a good soldier.

wow 5 years at 4 million I don't see that happening. I want to also say thank you to Scuds and wish him well in his future out of la. Dean would be wise to say no to that long of a deal. I can see 3 at maybe 3.5 million max.

He only started making big money at the NHL level 4 years ago when he signed with the Kings. 4 years ago he was 30. A late start and trying to make up on lost time and money.

He now has 2 Cups to his name. He's been on another team that made the final, and another team that went to the conference final. It won't and can't be from the Kings, but it wouldn't shock me if he got that money and those years.

Although it would be interesting to see if the Kings were willing to pay that if the cap wasn't going down. $4 million isn't that much of a raise from last year. The years would be weird, but those can be worked around if you really want to.

If Mitchell is healthy, then it doesn't matter what number Scuderi gives Lombardi, he's gone. For better or worse, Regehr would take his spot.

There aren't too many shutdown defensemen who get $4M. Giving Scuderi that type of money puts him right along the same range as Slava Voynov, and going that much for five years just isn't acceptable. Paying that kind of money to a player who is approaching his 40s isn't very wise.

I wish the Kings could keep him, but if that's what he is asking for, I'll just thank him for what he did and hope that Mitchell returns at 100% come the first day of camp.

I know this is kind of a long shot, but if Mitchell is healthy and with healthy Greene, couldn't we get a trade done for RR then sign Scuderi, if Mitchell is going to play isn't that a good move?

I would say without a doubt if the cap was still 70.2M we would pay him that.
The problem is that DL managed the cap but could not have planned for the drop. And when he is only 34 it won't be a 35+ contract and the fact it is under 6 years there would be no recapture penalty. It is not really that risky of a deal if it could be afforded. But we can't give that much without moving either Williams or Stoll. And that is really just robbing one position for another. Since just with qualifying offers we would still need one person and they would need to be right at the league min for us to do it or there would need to be retained salary. We would also lose both Martinez and Ellerby in this deal.

Given injuries I would rather let scuds walk. This way if Mitchell or Greene go down again for longer than a few weeks then the kings have a bit of salary to plug the hole.

I think it comes down more to scuds not wanting to resign here and wants a long term deal closer to his home. Nothing wrong with that, he's earned it.

Can't imagine Lombardi doing a sign and trade. Mitchell, Regehr, and Greene looks to be our veteran defensive trio next year.

The Kings have re-signed Mitchell, Williams, and Regehr during the season. Penner, Stoll, and Fraser were a different story last year, but there had to be a reason that Scuderi hadn't been signed already. You know Lombardi loves the guy.

Whatever the reason, it sounds like Scuderi wants to see what's out there. Can't blame him. It's probably his last big contract, and again, he got a late start on making real NHL money. He's been a top 4 defenseman on a team that has played the most playoff games over the last 2 years. Might as well swing for the fences while you can. If someone is giving Ed Jovanovski a similar contract, someone will probably do it for a far better player at this point in Scuderi, and damn the consequences. This is the NHL after all.

If we go by what Lombardi said, Scuderi/his agent didn't give him a number. Regehr did. Now Regehr may deserve less than what he's made the last few years, but he still took a cut in pay to sign. Scuderi doesn't seem to want to do that, and that's that. Good or bad, Regehr is the guy. Learn it, know it, live it.

Good to hear Dean make an optimistic statement about the status of Mitchell going forward, I think this is the first time he has said anything other than calling him a question mark.
