Most Canadian hockey players grew up rich or in upper middle class families but dreaming about becoming famous and fans asking for pics and autographs shouldn't be exclusive to people with humble beginnings.

What he said was also a bad thing in regards to our fan base. It's sad that it's true.

Must be why Gretzky prefers to live in SoCal along with his family.

I don't see it that way. Unless you're a bigtime hoops player or Mike Trout, most LA athletes go unnoticed. People do recognize him and others around the South Bay, they just choose to let them be or politely ask for a picture and that's it. From what I've read, Canadian market players are treated like celebrities and are followed around like LA actors at the top hot spots.

Pretty sure Kershaw and Puig would be mobbed.

True. But any other, no way. I honestly think Canadian players like playing out here avoiding the media spotlight. Imagine the **** storm that would've followed Doughty around when he had that problem in the bar in like 2011 or 12' and it took place north of the boarder? The LA media buried it as the 7th lead story before the weather and it was totally forgotten.

15 year old Leafs fans are rubbing one out in that comments section.

Toronto media is like that thirsty hoe that constantly approaches you.

"Are you happy in LA?"

Beat it ratchet!

It's the perfect storm. The Kings window will be closed, our best players will be out of their prime, their window will just be opening and all those great players will be in their prime.

If DD wins a Cup with the Leafs and ends the drought he will walk on water in his home province. Ask guys who were on the 2004 Red Sox or 2016 Cubs what it was like, and none of those guys other than Ben Zobrist were hometown kids.

I just don't see how the Kings can compete with what the Leafs can offer him.

Is Drew single, him marrying an LA girl may be our only hope.

Not good. Also noteworthy about Doughtys comments on Lombardi.

We all know Sutter had to go but I think it was mistake the Kings by not promoting Lombardi to president and letting Blake take over as GM.

I see it the same way. The Doughty contract situation is something Blake is going to have to get a feel for before next summer and then go with his gut.

If he can't sign him, the longer he waits, the more other GMs will lower any offers they are making. Just glad Dean didn't give him an NTC in his last deal.

For those of us who are lazy and haven't watched/listened, what did he say about Lombardi?

Just that he was really surprised about Lombardi being fired, and that he'll miss him cause Dean was the first to believe in Drew and take a chance on him.
Wasn't shocked or surprised about Darryl being fired because he pretty much said what everyone witnessed, that the players tuned him out a year ago.

It all depends on if he's comfortable with Leafs Nation wanting to know what breakfast he ate, how many pairs of socks he has, the colour of the dump he took before he went to practice, etc.

Some guys just want to be left alone and enjoy playing in place where they are not hounded 24/7.

Ask Steven Stamkos. Apparently there were marketing deals in place where he could have generated more cash if he signed with the Leafs but he choose to stay in Tampa because he likes the anonymity.

Playing for the Leafs is not for everyone.

I don't even care. I saw the Cups. He's free to sign wherever he wants, for whatever reasons he has. The endless speculation about it will get boring. It's already boring. Go through the whole song and dance for the next 12 months, and probably only then will we possibly have a better idea of what might happen within the following 12 months.

Embrace the void. Succumb to the inevitable. The journey will be over soon. That last flickering cosmic light you witness will be Doughty going home. Accept it. Believe in it. Stare into the abyss, and allow the inescapable to wash over your consciousness.

If Drew is gonna go, hopefully LA gets two or three solid pieces in return.

Is what it is.

Would like to see him retire as a King tho.

My wife will legitimately shed a tear if Doughty is traded.

It is what it is. Toronto will definitely be sending us the farm in a deal like that, which could really reboot the franchise. It'll just be a sad day. Saddest day since Gretzky was traded, to be honest.

Let's just hope Blake doesn't turn down this trade's version of Chris Pronger this time around.

Having to listen to Leafs fan circle jerk over Doughty potentially signing with them will be worse than Doughty actually signing with them.

Doughty likes to win.

I doubt Doughty would stick around for a rebuild. If the Kings miss the playoffs again, I would bet Doughty wants out.
