“@LeafsLunch1050: Doughty: â€I think all of us Southern Ontario players, we secretly want to play for the #Leafs, you know, we all have that kind of soft spot“â€

If there's one thing Toronto media is great at, it's taking things out of context and blowing things up just to drive more clicks to their site and stations.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/doughty...-draft-and-possibly-joining-the-leafs~1147011

Back in '93 during All-Star weekend, the Toronto media made up rumors about Gretzky being unhappy after Coffey was traded, and that he had demanded a trade and was going to become a Maple Leaf.

Toronto media thought they'd be able to land Rob Blake back in 2001, that didn't end up happening. They thought Stamkos was "coming home." Didn't happen. Now they're wasting their time with the thought of John Tavares joining the Leafs next summer and Doughty in 2019.

First off, I doubt that Blake even allows Doughty to get to that point. Secondly, if there's any inkling that they won't be able to retain Doughty, he'll be dealt to the highest bidder.

Given how swiftly the Toffoli and Pearson contracts were taken care of, I doubt that Blake is going to drag his feet and dick Doughty around the way Leiweke and Gilmore did to him back in 2000.

I'd recognize him in a heartbeat if I spotted him out and about here, but I get the "Celebrity" comparison he's trying to make between LA and Toronto - which is the point of his comment, not that he is thinking about leaving.

I'm surprised HF Boards has not yet crashed with overreaction on the main board.

The mods quickly shut a thread down for some reason. I think it's funny to read the overreaction, it's worth a good laugh. I mean, some morons out there actually got custom made Stamkos Leafs jerseys. Reminds me of someone who did that prior to the 2008 draft...

Yeah they were very selective about which quote they used to represent the interview

Doughty probably at home loving the reaction

I know we're bored around here, but I don't think this is worthy of its own thread.

The Doughty to Toronto rumors are going to be incredibly annoying for the next two years.

Toronto right now...

I posted it on the main board, but still have to laugh. He literally states "I'm spoiled playing in LA" and that somehow gets taken as he wants out of LA? Lol

The biggest issue with the Leafs organization is their fans. They're too passonaite! Players don't want to play there because of the scrutiny, and the owners don't need produce a wining team because of the fans loyality.

Doughty to Toronto proposals will be a billion times worse than the Brayden Schenn to Toronto proposals, and those were ridiculous

To be fair.. he did say he may want to test the waters on tim and sid. That's a thing he said.

Blake should trade Doughty if he gets a strong feeling there is no way he resigns with us. We don't have to worry about it this season, but I'm sure he's keeping an eye on the situation.

It is when you're a Canadian hockey player. He even admitted that he wouldn't know how to handle that sort of spotlight everywhere he went.

Most Canadian hockey players grew up rich or in upper middle class families but dreaming about becoming famous and fans asking for pics and autographs shouldn't be exclusive to people with humble beginnings.

What he said was also a bad thing in regards to our fan base. It's sad that it's true.
