I love Zetterlund and wish he was still a Devil, but Mercer is a really valuable member of the team, regardless of his point totals. He's just an excellent 2 way player, and he's still a more productive 5v5 player then Zetterlund, albeit while playing with better players for the most part.

Over the last 3 seasons at 5v5:

Zetterlund
0.63 G/60
1.45 P/60
0.71 xG/60

Mercer
0.90 G/60
1.69 P/60
0.83 xG/60

Sharks would be all over this imo. Mercer would look great slotting in behind Maklin.

Edit: Huh, for some reason I thought Mercer was playing C. Still like this deal for SJ

Love Zetterlund and never wanted to move him in the first place. Have no interest in making lateral swaps for the sake of swapping guys.

We love Zetterlund. That said, NJ's collection of RHD looks awfully appetising to a team who have Nate Thompson as our lone RHD under team control beyond next year. Who amongst Hamilton, Kovacevic, Casey, Nemec, and Pesce are most likely to shake loose over the next two years?

Got to think SJ would be interested in all but Hamilton (we'd like him to, but doesn't really fit our timeline).

If Kovacevic makes it to free agency I hope Grier's first in line.

Kovacevic is the most likely to not be on the roster next year just by virtue of being a free agent next year. Fitzgerald commented recently that he's planning on reaching out to Kovacevic's camp soon just to see where they are at, but I don't expect much to come of that.

Dougie is under contract for 3 more years and offensively still playing at a high level. I do think there's a case to be made that you can kick around a potential move from Dougie, but he can only be traded to 10 teams next year which is really going to eat into his value if you could find a partner, so there may not be much value in trading him

Depends on how willing dougie is to move.

His real money hit of just over 4 mill a year in his final 3 years, or 3 mill a year in his final 2 years, after his bonus is paid out is ridiculously low
