News Article: Davidson on 2025 draft: If there’s an opportunity that makes sense to use that pick on the market, then we’ll absolutely explore that.

That's me in the corner
Scott Powers: To have likely another top-five pick in this year’s draft, do you look at that as a possible asset you can move or do you need to make that pick to add another young player of that potential caliber? How do you look at that?

Kyle Davidson: “I don’t think it’s necessarily that we’re married to making the pick. Again, it would be a very hard needle to thread in all likelihood, but if there’s an opportunity to use a pick like that to find a player that’s either in the NHL or closer to the NHL that we feel very confident is going to provide us some significant value to the NHL roster moving forward, then certainly we’re going to explore that. We’re not dead set on, “Well, we got this pick, we got to make it.” If there’s an opportunity that makes sense to use that pick on the market, then we’ll absolutely explore that.”

What else could Davidson say? Of course it's smart to keep all options open, especially not even knowing what pick they end up with (including potential picks they could still acquire) and how the draft eligible players stack up when all is done and what would be available at the draft.
That is exactly what I would expect him to say if he were asked that question.

right. 99% likelihood that they're keeping the pick (but you never say never, lol)

I mean if Capitals offered up a player like Ryan Leonard then ya sure I could see KD trading the pick but I really don't see a young player available like that to even entertain the thought...never know though some GMs get jumpy and make dumb moves

What about 2 or 3OA for Pettersson? Would you do it? I don't know if I would but maaaybe?

As long as we stay in the top 4, I can't see a realistic player for pick we should be considering. But it can't hurt to listen in case something you consider unrealistic is actually possible. If any of Demidov, Buium, Leonard were available for 3 or 4....I would jump at the chance to get a player a year or two further in development with more answers than you necessarily have with an 18 year old.

Brady Tkachuk come on down? I wonder what the likelihood is of shopping the pick based on lotto results...

I think we might have missed our chance because Ottawa became a legit good team this year.

Had they continued to falter, I think this upcoming off-season there would have been a legit chance for anyone to pry away Brady.

I guess they could still do bad the second half and miss the playoffs to be fair, that surely would do it.
