Prospect Info: David Ullstrom

Feel free to move to prospects thread... However, I didn't feel like "prospect" did this guy justice.

Saw a few Bridgeport games during the lockout and I really feel like Ullstrom in more than NHL ready. He has hockey sense that is off the charts, and the grit/determination that is unmatched. Makes the smart plays and has great finishing ability. While the AHL numbers are nothing to cry home about, he looks the player better suited for the faster paced NHL game.

In a second line role, I see this kid being a 25/25/50 player.

Agree, and he's ready. Hopefully they keep him up on the Island and he can earn top 6 minutes and some PP time.

Unfortunately I'm not very enthusiastic about this current coaching staff and it's decisions. If he stays he might wind up buried as a 4th liner and or scratched and never see PP time.

I think he could really surprise people if he's put in the right situation. I originally had him pegged for that 3rd line with Nielsen and Grabner, which would have been a good situation for him, but now with Bailey out who knows what the lineup will look like.

Either way, I agree. Think he's definitely a sleeper this year.

This year for sure, as I hope the Isles go with a kid line this year on a regular shift. And of course I want them to remind me of the last one with brad d-Green-Mac line of years ago. Should be a really interesting year offensively, but the back end without Visnovsky is going to kill this team.

As for Ulstrome, he has done nothing but impress me so far, who knows where this kid is going to wind up as far as lines.

I'm impressed with his coast to coast rushes, looks like a very technical and smooth stickhandler. He's big, strong, fast and can shoot the puck. A lot of potential. NHL ready for sure. If you ask me, more upside than Grabner.

Huh? Grabner has scored 54 goals in 154 games for us, almost all at even strength.

^ This. Ullstrom will never hurt you as a third liner with his size, great speed, good vision and IQ, and grit. His puck handling and shot actually say 2nd liner, but I feel he may never have the finish to be a 2nd liner, maybe at best a tweener.
I actually envision a future 3rd line of the Swedes featuring Ullstrom, Sundstrom, and Persson...possibly Kabanov.

This is a great description, big, strong and fast and can shoot. One of my favorite prospects, and his time is now. Responsible defensively too. Once Sundstrom comes up, they'll be a great combo on the 3rd line.
