He's barely playing 15 minutes/game lately. I would not re-sign him even on a league minimum contract as a 7th defenseman. First, that would be disrespecful for a 860 game + vet and we need his spot anyway. We have a very solid group in the farm team right now and 6 solid NHL defenseman already.

I like this idea on building by removing the bottom of the depth chart and replacing them with more young/quality players. Last year, we got rid of Harris, Kovacevic (even if he's doing good for himself), Ylonen. This year it's Barron, Pezzetta, RHP and most likely Dvorak and Savard. I don't know what will happen with Armia but you get the idea.

I'm pretty sure he could sign as a UFA somewhere on a rebuilding team like the Sharks or the Hawks. As you said, he's a good leader and he gives everything he has.

I did look at evolution of his ice time by quarter. He was averaging almost 19 mins a night in Q1. I wonder if that also had to do with our crap start.

Yeah, was quite obvious to me when RDS showed him taking a picture with is wife and kid on the Habs bench i think it was before the game.

It was right before the game. This is his last rodeo.

And after the game, MSL said something* that suggest you he already told the team.

*MSL said that the kids are playing so the vets can real experience the playoffs in Montréal.

Well deserved, he sacrifice his body like no one this year. He seems like a really solid guy to have in the dressing room.
