David Savard retiring after the season

Good call, he's absolutely washed at this point. Solid career and was a good warrior for the Habs during some otherwise pretty abysmal years so I'll definitely appreciate him for that.

Makes sense. Columbus fans were warning us he was cooked like 5 years ago. With the lack of interest in him at the deadline the last 2 years, he was probably looking at a major pay cut, and not everyone wants to prioritize hockey in their mid 30s for around league minimum

There was interest in him at the TDL just no crazy overpayment offers.

Hughes listened to Suzuki's request to not trade guys away this deadline.

Even though he's slow, considering that he is a right-handed D, there probably was going to be no shortage of bottom-pair/7D offers this season, but he's also made a big chunk of cash in his career and could go into coaching early. Good for him, he's had a very good career, especially for a former 4th rounder.

He's been cooked since at least last season, potentially the one before. Good for him though, awesome career.

I had negative expectations when he signed but he's actually been fine until this year

I ended up being wrong about this signing.

On another note, savard is wrapping up his 14th season. The Sabres never entered the post season during his career.

We are at the point where guys with long careers would never have witnessed the Sabres in the playoffs for their playing days. That really puts things in perspective.

He was honestly solid for most of last year, this year one of the slowest moving objects I've ever seen
Once i dvr’d the game, then was fast forwarding to the 2nd period. I got confused when Savard had the puck and appeared to be skating at decent / normal speed. Then i remembered i had it on fast forward.

Lol, I haven't seen that deke from savard this year. That was his move. That's how I know it was time to go.

Good on him to recognize his drop in performance in abilities.

Let’s see how he does in playoffs. He’s still good in PK / empty net or when we end up in turtle defence…problem is, his slowness is often the reason why we’re defending in the first place.

You can’t play in the NHL while wearing size 38 jeans

David Savard Has Talent

Say what you want but David rocks the size 38 skinny jeans and has a surprisingly angelic voice! David's got talent!

Sad. I thought he'd do another year or two just slowly spiraling into old man depth role obscurity. But with the beating his body has taken, the way he plays, the way the skating has fallen off again...he's more than served his time sheltering "the kids" for Montreal too. Can't fault him for going out on a high note, in the playoffs...while he can still skate a little bit...kinda.
