David Savard retiring after the season

...Yeah, it was really rough this season. He's realtively healthy, has three or four young kids and has made enough money to not really care about doing 1M next season. Also, a really well-liked guy everywhere he went as far as I know so he won't have troubles getting opportunities.

Makes sense. Columbus fans were warning us he was cooked like 5 years ago. With the lack of interest in him at the deadline the last 2 years, he was probably looking at a major pay cut, and not everyone wants to prioritize hockey in their mid 30s for around league minimum

I am happy for Savard and would like to congratulate him on his lengthy career.

I think this puts Montreal’s coaching staff in a bit of a situation here. The playoffs have a more condensed schedule and Savard is the #6 defenceman. I was guessing that Savard would be healthy scratched here and there in the playoffs to conserve him. Now with him announcing his retirement it will be a lot harder to healthy scratch a leader knowing he only has a handful of games left in his career.

He's been cooked since at least last season, potentially the one before. Good for him though, awesome career.
Nah...
Last season was actually pretty good all things considered. Certainly his best as an Hab (and probably his best season in years). Probably shouldn't have been deployed as a 2nd pair D-Men, but there's a reason why the Habs were the 5th worst team last season. Good stabilizing force, if anything.

This year's Savard doesn't have a spot in the lineup if he's a LHS.

He's in the lineup because he's a RHS. And he probably shouldn't be seeing more than 12 minutes a night anyways.

We sure could use another like he was over here now.

Thanks for the memories, Savvy, and enjoy your retirement... after y'all crush the Caps. (I wonder if he's got one more of those little dangle goals in him like he did to Hedman a few years back... ;) )
Oh he can still do it. He's still smart and he still has pretty good hands, much better than one would expect anyway.

It's always a funny treat to watch him dangle guys in total slow motion.

Savard is not telling pmayer he's used to be but can we not make BS up. It was widely reported teams were interested the past 2 years at the deadline.

loved him last year but this season has been a complete nightmare that being said hes well liked in the room so probably helped the younger players

Happy retirement Savy
