Drafting cooley would've made this team way too easy to play against IMO, Slaf is a rare talent that you can get and need in the playoffs

Whats not happening? You think that mtl will finish 28th or better? I don't see any team be worse than MTL except maybe Chicago and San Jose. If last year wasnt the Bedard and the top 4 all star potential draft lottery, mtl was a 32th team for sure. Flyers have progressed, Couturier will be back. Arizona will be alot better. Columbus will be ALOT better with Werenski in the lineup and Seversson. Anaheim will have a 80 pts season with Drysdale back. Which other team will finish lower than mtl?
Your thinking about it wrong,

There are absolutely 4 teams that are worse then MTL this year,

ANA, CHI, SJ and PHI, Zegras and Drysdale both haven't signed and will at this point be missing nearly all of camp, chicago has bedard and Hall and not much else. SJ is starting their rebuild and same with philly who you called out brought back Couts, who is there version of Monahan.

We fall in the group of teams including, WSH, NSH, Van, CGY, ARI, CBJ, STL, OTT, BUF and DET. Where the last three are simply there because only 4/5 can make it in the atlantic. It's likely we finish somewhere between 7th -12th in the draft this year but I wouldn't expect a bottom 5 finish again

I keep reading how Slafkovsky is a rare talent but it's not that uncommon to find top 6 w that is 6'3". He got knocked down a ton last season (resulted in his season ending injury even) so it's not like he has some innate ability to not be knocked off the puck yet. Feel like this is setting up for disappointment. There's nothing wrong with him just being a regular potential top 6 W potentially being a 30/30 guy... It doesn't need to be hyped as "rare talent".

6’3 is tall but not super uncommon.

Being the heaviest player in the league at 18 is.

he should've played in the AHL until hes 21 years old like Perry and Getzlaf and Thompson did. Players that size with his hockey IQ, puck protection and shot rarely end up under PPG players. He's gonna be one of the best LWs in the league in 4 years. Do you really think the 20 professionnal scouts that are the best in the world at evaluating players drafted him to be a 60 pts player? Come on man, Cooley was a safe pick for 60 pts. Slaf is the kind of guy that changes a franchise and will give you eltie hockey in playoffs when its physical. Be PATIENT! Even Jack Hughes took 4 years to get over 60 pts and hes a small agile guy lol
Strongly disagree with the fact a consensus cannot make mistakes regarding top picks : Yakupov, Lafreniere & Byfield before Stutzle, Nolan Patrick & Hischier before Makar Pettersson ….

wrong thread for Slaf but comment is a general one.

on Reinbacher, I believe he can become a 1D that s more valuable than a 2C or a top line W which were the alternatives. If Michkov becomes the second coming of Ovi sure that was a mistake but let s give them time before judging.

There's close to no chance he becomes the second coming of Ovi. But he might be a star and it will sting if he gets to 40-50 goal 100 point level. We've been starving for that kind of talent for years.

That's Ovi's numbers. But the kid will have to calm down and work on his character if he wants to survive in a NHL room.

Reinbacher plays with a lot of poise and confidence for 18
One more season in Switzerland won't hurt him... Unless Habs really want to keep him closer and play him in Laval.

Bad take there.

"There's close to no chance he becomes the second coming of Ovi."

Is everyone who scores 40 goals - 100 points at some point the second coming of Ovi ? Or do they have to be the likely greatest goal scorer of all time, highest scoring left winger, have a season of 65 goals, 3 Harts, a Conn Smythe and 9 Rocket Richard trophies ? Prime Ovi with scoring as it is crushes it even more than he did in his early 20s.

Imagine having your career ruined because you have been drafted by nyr instead of ott
I'd hate to play for the Rangers honestly. No opportunity early on for a player like Laff on a veteran team in a win now mode and the location of the arena is crap

Will play tonight ! Will be interesting to see if they send him back after the game. Wasn't he suppossed to play just one game ?

I thought he played good game. Even throwing his weight around a little.

Wonder if he goes to Laval? Similar to Nemec or Jirichek last year. Usually getting them use to North America ice size earlier speeds up and betters their careers.

Funnily enough I was one of those having Reinbacher at 5OA, I like what I saw from him in pre season and yet now the Habs have hin I don t have that much faith in my pick… that s how much trust I have in Habs drafting :D

I think we're going to be okay with Orville.

Thank god we didn't take Dvorsky, at least. Guy's going to be lucky to hit 10pts in the SHL this year.
