Are you sure? I recall someone from the Habs saying his contract would potentially slide for 2 years by signing this year, and zero years if he signed next year.

From NHLPA Agreement 9.1

(d) (i) In the event that an 18 year old or 19 year old Player signs an SPC with a
Club but does not play at least ten (10) NHL Games in the first season
under that SPC, the term of his SPC and his number of years in the Entry
Level System shall be extended for a period of one (1) year, except that
this automatic extension will not apply to a Player who is 19 according to
Section 9.2 by virtue of turning 20 between September 16 and December
31
in the year in which he first signs an SPC.

We were told that by signing him now Reinbacher would not fall into that exception.

only junior aged contracts slide, he'll be 20 next season.

Reinbacher and Mailloux are two excellent RD in the making. Baron and Kovacevic can do the job too. And many of our kefties can play on the right side - Guhle, Harris, Xhakaj....Engstrom.
Mailloux is going to be a bust. His decision-making and defending are awful, and I don’t think his offends at NHL level will be good enough to overcome that. All tools, no toolbox guy. Beaulieu 2.0

Reinbacher, Hutson, Guhle, Harris, Barron, Mailloux, Xhekaj, Engstrom, Trudeau, Bogdan, Struble (Plus Matheson isn’t going anywhere).

It’s simply too many, same ageish solid potential D. More than one of them WILL go. Clearly. It’s gonna be sad honestly lol, but it’s bound to happen sooner rather than later I’d say

Pretty sure guys like Mailloux, Engstrom, Trudeau, Bogdan or Struble have zero value on the market. And guys like Harris and Barron, while decent/useful, aren't gems or anything like that.

I just saw online that Mathias Brunet compared Reinbacher to Rasmus Andersson of the Flames.

I don't know enough about Rasmus' playing style, but he is Calgary's 1RD and has put up 50 points two seasons ago and put up 49 pts this past season.

I dont see RA personally. Hes as close you can get to Pietrangelo to me. Very similar.

That also the player that came to mind before the draft. This is why I wanted him. You win cups with Pietrangelo ;)

Send him to Laval I would. He'd be more ready and better player next season. Usual getting use to NA ice cuts down their effectiveness.
I would like Laval too. For two reasons : adapt to NA style of play and not have to suffer the debate about his PPG dropping vs last year in the NLA should it happen :D (the second is obviously a joke)

Other than the one bad pass today?

Calm, composed, defensively sound and showed out offensively a couple of times.

Reinbacher is the type of defenseman who can log 30 minutes a night, shut down the top line and always move the puck forward in the face of pressure.
Definitely going to be a very, very, very good defenseman for many, many years.

Honestly reminds me of Ryan Murray who was one of the best upcoming defenseman I've ever seen. Unfortunately for him injuries derailed what would have been an incredible career into a merely respectable one.

Was he my pick? No. But I can't understand how anyone can't see that he's going to be fabulous player.

From his own mouth he wanted to finish his commitments back home for one more year. So I'm guessing he goes back until next year unless that's changed.

Then again, this organization clearly didn't care at all about what Mesar wanted, forcing him into his 3rd choice, so maybe they will force him over.

Mailloux, Engstrom, and Barron would all have would solid value.

Bogdan obviously doesn't considering he was just drafted in the 4th round. But 1 more good season as a #1 defenseman in Russia and that changes quickly.

It depends on what you mean by solid value.

If a team doesn't have a D of their level in the pool, that's concerning.

Wish I could see this kid. I only hear positive things from guys that seem him play. And I hear he's a way better player than his draft spot would indicate

I didnt even mean trade wise, I just meant they'll eventual just need to go contract wise once they are ready for there own opportunity. I would suspect some leave through FA and some leave through trade chips as sweeteners to a deal

I doubt any of them have solid trade value now, but they might have it a year from now.

He’s going to be a great player. I was initially letdown for not taking a forward, but I’m not sure I wanted any of the forwards remaining at 5 over him either.

I wasn’t on the Leonard train, I did like Benson though.
You just know he’s gonna be a guy that helps you win. Him and Guhle back there come playoff time is gonna be huge.
