Prospect Info: David Reinbacher - Laval Rocket edition

One is injured every year , the ‘scouts ‘ here said Mailloux was trash and Michkov was a bum. You expect first round picks to show a quicker progression and be healthy. This is painful to watch the kid validate his draft ranking

Isn't Mailloux a good example of letting him get playing time then ? Mailloux missed almost his whole D+1 year. His play has been very up and down with a lot of slow decision making for the last two years in the AHL. He's only now putting things together in the playoffs. Reinbacher played well in pretty much every game in the AHL but the last three or four.

Reinbacher is still so young and there's so much development runway ahead for him as a Dman.

No defencemen from his draft year (2023) really played any significant NHL hockey this year, and one could argue that only two defencemen from 2022 played in impact roles in the NHL this year (our own 2nd rounder Hutson, and Mintyukov - all the others including high picks like Jiricek, Nemec, and Mateychuk etc played partial years split with AHL time).

Lots of Top 10 defencemen picks take some time, until their D+3 or D+4 role before they start to take a strong foothold. It's not like Reinbacher is an aberration.

Top ten D picks from 2021:
- Power, 1st OA, NHL regular in D+2
- Hughes, 4th OA, NHL regular in D+3
- Edvinsson, 6th OA, NHL regular in D+4
- Clarke, 8th OA, NHL regular in D+4

And I don't think the above guys are at their peak effectiveness yet, just like I don't think Reinbacher is near his peak.

I think next year we're going to see Reinbacher start getting his feet wet in the NHL in his D+3 and he may even gain a solid footing on the roster part way through the year.

It’s a lot of runway for a 5th overall pick, but I certainly am hoping he pans out but I don’t have that warm and fuzzy feeling Like I did with Guhle for example. I was not worried about hutsons skillset but I certainly questioned his size …. Boy was I wrong. With Reinbacher I still don’t get the hype , don’t see it. Maybe he makes me look bad , that’s ok too

I agree that he's not a dog like Guhle was and he's had enough shaky games to raise questions. He's definitely not the surefire guy he looked like in his draft year due to all the circumstances we know. I do think the tools, work ethic and IQ are all there though, remains to be seen if the health and confidence follow. He missed a lot of games this year.

At some point he just has to prove 'something' whether its a healthy season or some production in the playoffs would be nice too.

It’s easy to not get the hype. He played on a bad team in Switzerland and the sample size has been spotty and limited. After a full season, I’m sure we’ll see what he can bring.

One more injury on that kid and it's going to be sad , how much more can those knees take :(

Playoff experience is great, but in all honesty, the best thing for him might be a little time off in the summer.
His knees are the only thing keeping him from a long NHL career.

This is what really worries me. He’s only 20 and he has the knees of a 40 year old.

This is what drives me nuts about HF, like how do you actually think you would know what is up with his knees? Are any of you doctors? Why post things like this, as any player at any time can get injured, but why not just leave the medical speculation to the medical team or Dr Recchi.

Or you are supposed to crystal ball injuries when you draft a player.

I'm a retried Thoracic surgeon , and while I do not specialise in knees it's easy to spot some injury patterns in Reinbacher.

That's why I asked if any of you are doctors, but you worked with the heart, have you read anything about his medicals, what pattern is that you have spotted since he's only been injured 1 time this year in preseason. Or do you think the Habs have been covering up for him when they say they are just going with the program?

I would add that no doctor would pass such judgement without first hand knowledge of his medical file. So, no one on here knows anything about the condition of his knees.

Obviously, that won't prevent know-it-alls from pretending they do.

if we didn't have such a cream puff media that just ask softball questions, we might know more, although it wouldn't be in the best interest for that info to be out there.

On the other hand, even as a doctor you have to admit there's very little to go off, other then he gets a major injury in the preseason, comes back early and then they take it really slow with him. Common sense says if they thought there was an issue, no way in the world would they risk playing him in the AHL playoffs.

I'm also going from the team history on how they have always mis-managed injuries ... scary pattern I hope they no longer follow

How do you know that? You’ve read the MRI reports and spoken to the orthopedic surgeons? You’re basing your diagnosis on one major injury which is actually quite frequent and has great recovery rates? Markov played into his late 30s and and more frequent and serious knee injuries. No one here is in the know and almost no one here is a doctor, so maybe stop projecting this stuff over and over on this board, no offense, not picking on you specifically but I’m sick of reading that BS everywhere on here.
