Prospect Info: David Reinbacher - Laval Rocket edition

I mean,

Look at the amount of hockey he's played since being drafted....

He still played 46 games last year which is as much as he did in his draft year. He would’ve played less games had he been in the NCAA. The only year where he’s missed most of the season compared to his peers is the current one.

I guess there's nothing to worry about then..

We got our #1 future RHD for the next 15 years.

There's alsways something to worry about with all prospect. It's false to say Ryan Loanard is a surefire prospect and it's 100% sure he will become a top 6 player. It's a the grass is greener problem. Outside of a very few prospects like McJesus, Crosby, Ovy, .. there's question marks over the head fo all prospects. Is there more questions marks over the head fo Reinbacher maybe but at the same time the potential is there. I mean a 6'2 RHD dman who play well both side of the ice is extremely valuable. Every one is like Michkov this and Michkov that and i like the kid but he'll have to improve his defense a lot or turn into the next Bure / Kaprisov offensively to be a home run.

I concur.

Reinbacher's very shy and timid nature and injury history, plus his own admission of worrying about his knee when he plays, doesn't inspire huge amounts of confidence, but we've seen much stranger things in terms of redemption stories.

I'm not saying he is a flop. I'm saying that's what our fan base would say.
The whole fanbase would call a rookie a flop? You're going to stand by this assertion...?

Did the whole fanbase think Slafkovsky was a flop when he put up 10pts in his first NHL season? I seem to recall a lot more arguing against me and River Meadow for criticising his first season -- maybe we were arguing with ourselves?

The whole not but a lot yes they would. A lot are calling Reinbacher a flop and he is 20 years old

The main issue is that any slightly negative comment about our prospects triggers strong backlash from some fans.

We can't predict Reinbacher's future, whether he'll excel or struggle. Claiming he's either a bust or a guaranteed star lacks credibility at this stage.

It's more reasonable to assess his current performance and project his near term development based on where he stands now, but this seems more and more difficult to do, for the points I mentioned above.

You think a lot of the fan base would call a rookie out of college in his first NHL season a flop?

Still more. Thats all I'm going for.

Hopefully next year it's around 70, or 82 depending where he plays.

And as a defenseman, Reinbacher may have had more TOI all year last year cumulatively. It's totally negligible last year compared to other players in a European league or the NCAA.

Him missing time this year sucked but this isn't a guy who has missed a butt load of time every year. This is his first actual major injury and people keep treating him like he's Nolan Patrick.

Yeah, that i don't get.

Treat Dach like that.

Reinbacher hasn't looked as good as last year, but he came back late and the AHL is an underrated league in terms of skill and speed of the game, but he hasn't looked horrible throughout a game like some lesser dmen.

To be completely honest, Engstrom looks to be mote on his level than he should be and Engstrom was really good to start and has dropped down.

does he have shots on goal during his playoffs games? ahl site doesnt show SOG, regular season seams to have no SOG either but he has some goals

You won't get a significant upgrade to Struble on the 3rd pairing in the sub-1M range. He's young, cheap and can play regular shifts in the NHL. That's his selling points at the moment.

The team will absolutely need cost-controlled depth down the line and he could be that.
The 2 good points are he's not overpaid and cuz he's young, he can improve.

He was drafted 7 years ago I wonder how much improving he can make.

A lot.

See...

Giordano, Mark

Chara, Zdeno

Rafalski, Brian

Or if you dislike the superstar examples of dmen who didn't become stars until their mid 20's...

Samberg, Dylan
Cernak, Erik
Montour, Brandon

& On & on....

Many, perhaps most, of the top 4 dmen league-wide that weren't top picks in their draft years didn't establish themselves until their mid 20's... It's a very common progression curve for NHL dmen.

Yeah well when a young Carey Price said he hides away in his apartment in Montreal and feels like a hobbit because of all the medias and fans, I thought, this kid is done if thats how he feels here. Well we know what happened there.
