Prospect Info: David Reinbacher - Get Well Soon Edition

I was at the game on Saturday. And Reinbacher looked real good live. He's steady, plays a simple game, uses his body well to separate players from the puck and uses his reach to angle a player from getting into the danger area. Him and Engstrom make a real good pairing.

Nothing exciting about his game. But in a hockey smart market like Montreal, his kind of game will be appreciated.
That video of his throwing punches is great . He always showed he had that (I don’t shit attitude ) that makes a d very very valuable.
And for such a smooth fluid skater , hecan play a tough man game

Stating those two extremes is setting up a strawmen. I have personally been critical of several HuGo moves, where I had enough knowledge to evaluate.

I am not one of the two or three people on the boards that watched a lot of MHL and Swiss League play in 2023. So I didn't have a deep, expert -level opinion on the pick. But I was able to look up publicly available information. Reinbacher had an incredible performance in a men's league at age 17, better than Roman Josi did. He has a good NHL-level build, and he's projected to be the RHD on a first pairing. Sounds like a great choice at #5.

Still it's not nonsensical to prefer another player. Grow the f*** up. It's not a strawman. I used the two extremes to express WHAT is nonsensical.

I think that the people that need to "Grow the f*** up" are those with strong opinions of players they're not familiar with. It actually takes more maturity to acknowledge that one doesn't know which player is best.

Stop finding excuses, you made a broad statement that doesn't hold. You're trying to now constrain that broad comment to something else. The way you said it, included anybody who wanted Michkov. It's not non-sensical to prefer another player.

I'm going by what I saw. A lot of people indeed wanted Michkov, but very few of them had actually watched him in the RUS-MHL/VHL league, and even fewer of those had also watched Reinbacher play significant time in the swiss League. Their preferences were uninformed.

It is nonsensical to have an uninformed strong preference.

It's nonsensical to pretend to know what people knew. By your own standards, you are being nonsensical because you are doing a broad statement while being uninformed on what each one of them knew. You're not getting out of this. Pot meet the kettle.

Now that is nonsensical. People have a right to doubt a pick and prefer another player. There's nothing nonsensical about that. What's nonsensical are the two extremes. Either thinking HuGo can do no wrong or shitting on a 18 years old pick.
People can doubt a pick, that’s fine.

This was about people freaking the F out, spam posting, and sh*tting all over the pick from their basement while acting like they were hockey gods and the brass were a bunch of idiots.
There’s a difference.

For the record I wanted Will Smith or Ryan Leonard in ‘23, c’est la vie.

I’ve watched all of Reinbacher’s games this year and he looks far more powerful on his skates than his draft year & he’s very difficult to knock off the puck. He has great vision and his first pass is crisp & on target. Reinbacher is definitely a defence first player much like Guhle. That in itself is tantalizing….two R/L defenders that are reliable, smart and responsible, that’s what championship teams D are built around. I’m looking forward to watching DR play in the show, ASAP. cheers.

I'm sorry, but you're recreating/spinning the post I responded to. It simply stated "the complaints". I'm sorry but complaining about passing over an offensive dynamo we haven't had in decades is not nonsensical.

Some of us actually watched Michkov a ton and really wanted him

Not sure why were saying anyone who was upset about Michkov is a fool suddenly when Reinbacher still hasn’t played in the NHL lol

I'm talking about a group of people - not saying that was you.
Healthy debate is cool but flipping the F out is annoying.
No stress bro.

Yes, and if the Habs need something right now, it's a shutdown defensemen. We give up way too many chances on defense and i think he will be a stabilizing force for us for many years.

Worth noting that getting timing back, rebuilding confidence, and finding poise again on the defensive side of things is huge after this much time off. Being reliable and consistent at this stage is big for his development and (re)incorporating more offence should come with time - he has the tools. Coming back like this says a lot about his mental resilience and commitment IMO.
