I think anyone can read between the lines to find confirmation of something if they’re really looking for it. Mikas quote was pretty classic vanilla stuff not unlike players say when a team plays well with a star or starting goalie out - play for each other, etc.I mean you can kinda read between the lines from the players that they believed they have a bit more freedom to express themselves on the ice. Obviously you won't change a system in such short notice, but it can be a small thing that makes a difference. Maybe you play with a little bit more swagger, when you know you won't get yelled at the bench for not playing the exact way the coach wants.
I hope Quinn is staying away for the next two games or something as well. Just because I want to see how we respond the next game. Will they continue to play with a bit more freedom and creativity, or was this just a one off because Flyers were so utterly hopeless.
The guys who had big games never get benched though. In fact, people in here get on Quinn for not benching Mika as one of their more common complaintsThey just seemed more loose and probably weren't worried about being benched

And the guys who showed up huge aren’t guys who are ever benched or given short minutes - it was KZB and Panarin.
Having said that, yeah it’d be interesting to see what happens over the course of a few games. If they play way better against an opponent that shows up at all I’d be a lot more open to the idea that who’s behind the bench is contributing
I hate this. The thing about Quinn is he’d be great if they could bring in a great offense assistant coach to spruce up the game plan. We’ve seen what happened with Martin this season on the defensive side
His assistants would take care of the tactical stuff and he’s just the handsome head man that gets players motivated and buying into their system
But we’ve got Oliver, who no offense to him (he’s very nice ive met him before) he was in player development front office role prior to coming here, not a coach
To be fair, this was the major criticism of Quinn prior to him being hired. People were saying at the time he was going to need those type of assistants around him to be a really good coachI hate this.
If we're bringing in a bunch of specialists to do the actual coaching, then get rid of Quinn. Subordinates should compliment the Head coach, not be the brains behind the team. Why would I listen to Quinn if I knew he was just a bobblehead that answers media questions?
At the end of the day they didn’t re-write the organizational playbook, they worked from the same book (that some think doesn’t exist).
They’ve also scored 17 goals in their last 3 games, including two wins coming off shutouts from their second and third string goalies.
So, yes, when the goalies stop the puck and Zibanejad is performing like Zibanejad, we’ve got a good chance of winning.
Laf and KK didn't get a shift until 7 min into the game and then played pretty sparingly. When they were out there, they hit a crossbar, had several other opportunities including Chytil's goal. One game won't tell us much since these kids need to get used to not having the hammer over their head for every mistake. Ask Julien Gauthier how that works. What a bunch of moronic hot takes. “Shackles lost”, “played looser”? Are you serious? Is this what happened to Lafreniere and Kakko for whom Quinn gets the most blame? Idiotic!
Zibanejad was coming out of his Covid struggles for a couple of games now and finally the puck started going in. Buchnevich and Fox returned and continued to provide their career season’s performance. I mean all of these performance levels from Zibanejad, Buchnevich and Fox are a product of Quinn’s tutelage over his head coaching time here. Take your hate blinds OFF!

Mika was an issue. Mika and the offense having a breakout game without Quinn behind them, is amusing.
Are we pretending that we didn't look lifeless for how many periods/games? lost count. Those things get swept under the rug? That never happened last year. It's a common occurrence this year... it's become almost an expectation at this point.
We do not know what to expect this weekend... that in of itself is telling
what dont you agree with?I don't agree with any of this but I think we can both agree that it would be great to see last night's coaching staff for both games against the Caps. This way we see if it's the new coaching staff (i doubt it) or if last night was a combo of Zib finally breaking out and Philly just playing a poor game.
College coaching is different. It's about recruiting, about having people out there in programs steering people to your school. Quinn coached at BU. You could have freaking Mickey Mouse coach BU and there's going to be good athletes who want to play there. In the end I think he is over his head and professional players can see through his rahrah frat boy superman hair facade and know that he ain't shit.To be fair, this was the major criticism of Quinn prior to him being hired. so this isn’t exactly a new development haha
what dont you agree with?
have you not been watching the games? We've slept walk at an alarming rate. The lifelessness. Win or lose, most of the games this year have been close. I forget where I heard/read few weeks ago, but the amount of times they went into the third either tied or with the lead was astronomical, wish I can find the article. I never got the sense that the team wasn't competing or engaged it was more about their big guys sucking (or were MIA) and goaltending was beyond awful.
