Player Discussion David Perron (D) 2 years / 4M AAV

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
Tkachuk Stutzle Giroux
Greig Norris Gregor
Perron Pinto Amadio
Highmore/Reinhart Ostapchuk Batherson

Move Gregor and Greig with Norris to help Norris with puck transport and speed ..
Perron can fit with Pinto and Amadio
Waive Gaudette and get Ostapchuk on the 4th line.
Put Batherson down until he gets his head on... force him to defend and generate on limited ice,

we miss Cousins,,, Hopefully we get some bottom 6 help

I know
Replying to Dreasy Perron position's with Chuck and Stu

He doesn't belong on the 1st line
Ideally he doesn't, but I was contemplating lines where we could keep Pinto on the 3rd line, and hoping (wishful thinking?) that Perron without family and back issues could be a much better player next season.

He had rough a January, but since Feb.1 he's has 7 points (2 & 5) in 9 games.

Being a vet I don't see them moving Perron & likely will do good by him & his family until the end of his contract. He is starting to come on & hopefully will return to form & get that second line going. We Batherson to snap out of his slump so he can get Norris going, all three have shown tey can score in this league they just need to get some puck luck & start proving it.

I don't have high hopes for Perron to earn that contract; nor for him to be a top 6 player.

We seriously need to upgrade our top 6 players as I think we only have: Tkachuk, Stutzle, Norris, Batherson and Pinto at this time. Giroux and Perron are not top 6 players anymore.

Staios did not do it last summer; I hope he does so during the next off-season if not sooner (i.e., at the trade deadline).
What teams have 6 legitimate top 6 players? Very few. You work in pairs and fill in around the high end talent. That isn't to say you're wrong about Giroux or Perron or the notion that any of our current top 6 shouldn't be upgraded but the idea that a team needs 6 bona fide top 6 players is fantasy. For example, Pius Suter was a big contributor for the Canucks last year when they were playing unbelievable hockey. You start with 4 or 5 and you round out from there to the extent that coaching, pro scouting (free agency, winning trades) or the next wave of players can and you hope to find the right formula.

We're not even close to have what the 3 top teams in the division have. We're closer to Detroit and Montreal and we are a bubble team like they are. Only the Bruins have worst Top-6 production than the Sens. Sabres have 4 guys over 0.8 PPG. And even worse, we might have the worst bottom-6 production in the division.

If Giroux and Perron were still in their prime, it'd be a different story but they're both 37 y/o. Also if Norris never had his injury troubles, but then many teams could say the same thing about one of their players. Tkachuk and Batherson have been underwhelming for months, they could both do better but I guess they're the ones who to adapt to 2-way hockey the most on the team. Finally, Pinto has had 2 injuries this season and a very slow start. He has 15 pts in 16 games since January 11th.

This was interesting to look at, thanks for sharing.

Seems like basically you want your 4 top forwards to exceed, be at, or close to PPG. Those are your first unit PP guys.

Then a couple players who produce ~55-60 points.

If Batherson is your #4 forward you’re probably in good shape. Tkachuk could be 2 or 3, depending on if he can get back to producing as he was. But we’re missing another guy.

There's probably more than one good recipe but it seems that you need 3 guys flirting with PPG. I thought we had that in Tkachuk and Batherson as they started the year strongly but it's not as easy to produce offense for them as they are being asked to play 2-way hockey more

Ideally

3 x 70+
3 x 50-70
3 x 30-50

An ideal way to optimize our forward group for example :

Tkachuk - Stutzle - Nylander
Giroux - Norris - Batherson
Greig - Pinto - Noesen
