Player Discussion David Perron (D) 2 years / 4M AAV

Which is only reason why Anaheim would consider this.

Batherson is better now. Zegras has proven same production as Batherson and is 3 years younger and can be better.
You could be right. I don’t think he becomes as good as batherson tho. He’s just too soft. Batherson is also soft but zegras is another level

Not for the price the Quacks would want. If we traded Bath for Zegras, Ducks would need to add because Bath has more upside in every way except for age.

If the Ducks would be fine with a combo of Perron, JBD, and a draft pick (best we can do is a 2nd), sure, but I doubt Verbeek takes that.
I want to keep Batherson and add a top 6 forward.

I think we would have to give them our first round pick (2025) for Zegras if we want to dump Perron and his $4M contract too. If they want JBD, they can have him too as we will have Matinpalo and possibly Yakemchuk next season. However Yak might require some AHL time to develop against pros and mature.

I would want a better fit for the team than Zegras. I’d prefer Crouse.
Would be nice if we could acquire Crouse too; I am not sure we could afford both, but we have the rising cap ceiling, plus Giroux's $6.5M if we do not sign him, plus Forsberg's $2.75M, plus trade Perron and his $4M salary, but would need to pay a backup goaltender near $1M.

I don't think they are in a rush to move on from Perron, especially not for Zegras.

Staios spelled out last year why this signing happened. They couldn't get solid veterans in trades. Nobody wanted to give up the kind of players they felt their room needed at a reasonable price.

I could be wrong, but I think it's why we see Giroux and Perron stick around in spite of their decline in play. Especially if this is another turbulent offseason with lots of other changes in the room.

Perron played with Bath and Norris last night. So not sure I follow.

Yeah he looked good. I was thinking more of the start of the season when Pinto and Perron looked good together. Perron you can move around and still notice him, he can still PP and play in the neutral zone perron can still play through the lineup and contribute.

Amadio needs a Pinto or a Norris or he just looks like an overpaid AHl player. He’s a keep the play alive type of guy and without the help of a top center he doesn’t do much and not sure how that contract is going to look next year or the year after, Perron I’m less worried about for next season, Amadio to me I’m already seeing highmore do more so not sure what the plan is there

I'm hoping that goal makes him come alive. If there ever was a time for David to earn that contract...
I don't have high hopes for Perron to earn that contract; nor for him to be a top 6 player.

We seriously need to upgrade our top 6 players as I think we only have: Tkachuk, Stutzle, Norris, Batherson and Pinto at this time. Giroux and Perron are not top 6 players anymore.

Staios did not do it last summer; I hope he does so during the next off-season if not sooner (i.e., at the trade deadline).

Ideally one of Pinto or Norris plays on the third line, so in fact we need two top 6 players. Most likely we can only afford one at best due to our cap situation and difficulty in attracting free agents, and that's if we let Giroux go and add to his cap to upgrade.

Starting this summer, 4 mil is probably going to look like 3rd line money. Maybe it already is.
If you go with a 22 man roster, and the $88 million cap, the average is now $4 million per player.

Would make for a good thread,
How would you allocate $ to spend on each line.

But I think you maybe right, with new cap, it has to be getting close.

I think we're pretty much stuck with Perron, and we just have to hope that he'll come back next year in better mental (no family issues) and physical shape (no back issues). If so, we really need to upgrade on Giroux, and we could then something like run the following:

Chuck - Stu - Perron
UFA - Norris - Batherson <- or switch the UFA with Perron based on fit
Greig - Pinto - Amadio
Cousins (or equivalent) - Ostapchuk - MacEwen, etc.

Assuming we just let Hamonic and Forsberg go and replace them internally (Matinpalo, Leevi) we have maybe $8M more or less for the UFA? What can $8M get us, assuming we need to overpay to get the player to sign here?

Perron is not the solution we need. Too slow and old.

In an ideal world we could add a forward that would slide Perron to the 4th line when everyone’s healthy.

I think he helps Norris and Batherson because they both seem to need a forward that can create space out there with them but I don’t know… at this point our second and fourth lines are not good enough, so this makes the most sense as an adjustment. Easier said than done obviously.

He is skating better as of late but dammit he has to hit the net on that shot in the first. No excuse

- the first line is very good & always dangerous
- 2nd line is still adjusting as they haven't been together all that long, but we can see glimpses where they have the talent. All three players have had good yrs in the NHL & have shown they can put up pts. I expect they will get better with time & games & some puck luck.
- 3rd line is good & Pinto & Greig on the PK are always a threat to score. They could use a big scoring RW who can also add some physicality.
- 4t line IMO is their weakness, they aren't terrible & forecheck well, but they don't add much offence nor do they have a enforcer who can take that role from Brady. This is where they could use a good vet who can either be a pt producer or enforcer type. McCaron can play centre or RW & would help in that regard.
- it's the right side of the forward group that needs some help on this roster. Not sure Staois adds to this team given a number of players have missed so much time & when they are completely healthy are a team who can play with anyone. Having said that though another scoring RW would really help as well as an enforcer type who can play.
