My heart sank when I saw the news.
As an adult it's so hard to be blown away by a film but Lynch did it to me twice.
I still remember the first time I saw Mulholland Drive.
He was also a sweet and charming man. He was constantly smoking and drinking coffee. He loved milk shakes. He loved diners. There's something endearing about that. In the sometimes pretentious world of art, Lynch always felt pure.
I know he wasn't doing well health-wise in recent years.

I’ve always loved this interaction between Lynch and Ebert about Mulholland Drive.

He's one of the few public facing directors that comes off as actually cool. Like some try but it feels like they're cosplaying cool rather than embodying it (see e.g. Tarantino).

Lynch life was about as strange as his movies. Two men and a woman at a diner, doodling on napkins and ketchup while she's trying to figure out if they are insane or not.
I also have a huge soft spot for actors and directors working together so much that they become friends. It really shine through in this one.

Blank Check just finished a series on him - they actually did 4 episodes on The Return and an episode on season 1 of Twin Peaks in addition to his movies. Odd timing - before he came out as being sick and it finished like two weeks ago.
