Purely hypothetical as Jiricek isn't really playing, what would your team offer for him?

Looking mostly at a 1 for 1 swap as Columbus does not need more quantity pieces.

What direction is Columbus trying to go? Are they looking to win in the next couple of years? Are they trying to be as competitive as possible? In a rebuild?

It’s hard, because a lot of fans will look at his recent history and compare him more to Broberg most likely than a situation like a higher end prospect because he has had opportunity at the NHL level.

There’s some concern within his game, but there’s also a lot of good in it.

Is it a situation of him just not being happy with his playing time? I don't really see him as a disappointment, I think he could get a good haul.

Im sure he can't be happy with his playing time but also hasn't proven enough to deserve playing time.

You'll get varying opinions on him but I've never seen the hype.

Ideally they grab a promising center prospect or established dman that would resign.

A poster on Columbus' boards mentioned Rasmus Andersson.

There's definitely some weirdness around what's going on with him.

The word was he didn't take his demotion to the ahl well, but Jarmo also apparently told him to get a place then sent him down.

I would be down to trade him for a similar forward prospect. It would have to be a Yager or Drysdale type deal. Wouldn't really make sense for the Jackets otherwise.

As far as him as a player, it's too early to really judge. He's only 20. I don't love his skating but he still has loads of potential.

Jarmo drafted Ian Cole and Matt Kessel has that type of career potential, he is 6'3" very mobile, physical. Looks pretty good moving the puck in the attacking zone paired with a skilled offensive defenseman. Skates with his head up reading the play.

Jiricek has more potential than Kessel, though Kessel is going to play in the league awhile. I am a Kessel cheerleader within our board, and I would offer him and Jimmy Snuggerud, RW sniper prospect, for Jiricek. (Pending some mid round pick balancing if needed)

I think Columbus would be nuts to trade him but he's not playing anywhere. Just sitting in press boxes in the NHL watching Jack Johnson play.

Oilers offer Matt Savoie and our 1st.

We got a spot for you David!

Doesn't seem to be any reason to panic trade him for a lesser asset. He's a huge, toolsy RHD who is still 20 years-old. That's almost the prototype for "be patient and under no circumstance, trade this player during their uneven early development phase".

So unless there is actually some bridges burnt - why?

Simon Edvinsson was drafted the year prior at the same 6th overall spot and spent last season (the equivalent to Jiricek's THIS season) in the AHL with just 16 NHL appearances - and nobody was freaking out over him "taking too long" to develop. And fast-forward to this year - and he looks like an absolute unit in the NHL.

I'm not saying that guarantees anything for Jiricek but it seems a pretty timely reminder that you DO NOT liquidate big, 20 year-old blueliners with his tools.

Makes tons of sense from the Blues' perspective at the very least
I just don't know how Columbus would feel about that, similarly aged players, I think both project to be top of the lineup players. Blues would add in the end most likely. But I think there could be a deal to be made between the two teams with a Snuggerud+ for D. Jiricek

Unfortunately with Snuggerud being in college and having the option to follow that pathway they would need some guarantees or conditions.

I don't really think that the Blues should be exploring trading Snuggerud as we desperately need his shot on the PP. However, I could agree that would be something that should be able to be added in UFA whereas, if Jiricek hits it's improbable that that caliber of player could be available.

I would prefer someone like

Byfieid in LA
Neighbours in STL
I don't think Neighbours is really a trade option anymore with his new Extension, which is why I said Snuggerud (tho I think Snuggerud has a higher ceiling). But I definitely understand the desire for Jake. And it definitely would be something I'd listen to.

No interest in Savoie and Oilers don't have a first in 2025.
