if being a 20-year-old defenseman in the AHL is stagnating that's bad news for a lot of prospects, korchinski and name included

and yet he fell to 12th in his draft all the same.
You want to see progress in the most crucial areas of any given prospect's game. Which league they are playing in at 20/21 is irrelevant to what I'm trying to say.

You may disagree but I don't think Jiricek's value has gone up from a year ago.

I'm not saying his value has gone up but I don't think he's a distressed asset either.

my point is that he's only being framed as a disappointment because of all the drama from last year + the trade rumblings now. in reality he's right where nemec and korchinski are, and as a prospect he is arguably more well-rounded (bigger/more physical than both).

I doubt team grades on him have shifted much since the end of his D+1 year. the skating stuff has always been a concern, but any team acquiring him will probably bet on fixing it.

not so fast on minnesota. their system is good. the names that appeal most to me in those systems (michkov's not happening)
  1. buium - min
  2. wallstedt - min
  3. yurov - min
  4. edstrom - nsh
  5. rossi - min
  6. drysdale - phi
  7. bonk - phi
  8. luchanko - phi
  9. evangelista - nsh
  10. wood - nsh
of those names, obviously buium and wallstedt are the most appealing. i doubt they give up either guy but you never know.

with buium he was obviously the top guy left on MIN's board when they picked, but they could very well have a higher grade on jiricek. and wallstedt is clearly the top goalie prospect in hockey, but they have a good young goalie in gustavsson already there.

would love to get yurov. slam-dunk top six forward who has taken big steps since moving to center full-time. smart, competitive, skilled player who i think has a shot to be a star. seems like they expect him to come over this summer which is why they may be looking to move rossi.

i'm higher on edstrom than rossi long-term, but rossi looks really good right now and they need to bolster the forward group.

drysdale would be interesting but ultimately uninspiring. definitely a great skater but would run into some of the same issues here that jiricek did – unless evason would have the guts to have him leap-frog severson.

less confident on the projections for the other guys. evangelista is a fine young player but i see him more as a middle six complimentary piece. wood reminds me of laine in a way that makes me nervous.
I suspect Edstrom's unlikely to be available since he was just picked up in the Askarov trade, but the way Trotz seems to be running things with kids there G-d only knows. Evangelista is... well, with the recent Tomasino giveaway my guilt is gone and my conscience is clear and I'm now thinking "save him from the madness", but yeah he's still short of a Jiricek trade.
