If it's Vancouver, they could offer Willander straight up, which would be a similar deal to what the Penguins did with Winnipeg in the McGroarty for Yager trade. McGroarty was a little closer to the NHL and could help now just like Jiricek is closer to the NHL and could help them now.
Why would Vancouver do that? One prospect is trending up and the other is heading toward another direction.

If I’m Vancouver I wouldn’t do this. Jiricek has the higher upside, but Willander’s skating and defensive ability will almost assure he’ll be a solid NHL defender, it’s just a question of how much offensive impact he’ll provide.
Jiricek doesn't have the higher upside simply because he was drafted higher.
There are serious concerns with his skating ability that will make it very tough for him to be successful in the NHL if unless he improves his skating dramatically.

I could very easily be wrong but I feel like this is just a show by Waddell. If someone knocks his socks off then yeah, I wouldn't be shocked to see a trade but at the end of the day I think he's stalling and just putting it out there to quiet Jiricek and probably more importantly his agent. I don't think it's lost on Waddell that helping Jiricek reach his potential in Columbus is the best possible outcome in this situation.

(watch him be traded within the hour)

that's logical. but, also depends on Jiricek's mindset and attitude. Nothing Waddell can do about what occurred in 23/24 season between Jiricek and Jarmo/Larsen. All he can do is move forward. Evason has not been playing him or when he does, it is limited minutes.
If Jiricek has a good mindset in the A and just focusses on improving his game, whether his future is in CBJ or elsewhere, he just needs to just work on his game and that other stuff will ultimately take care of itself. Either he earns the callup with actual minutes or he gets moved for something. But, there is no guarantee that the new club will immediately have him in the NHL. Could very well, have him in their A club to start and decide from there.

Depends on how Waddell views the whole thing. The way the NHL works these days he can make Jiricek's life more miserable than the other way around just due to the control of the players rights. Now obviously noone wants that but Jiricek's camp has to be as mindful of that as Waddell's camp needs to be mindful of potential distractions. Hence in the end I think/hope nothing happens

I think this is the most likely outcome. He's trying to create a bidding war hoping he can get someone to overpay or at least meet what he wants.

Worst case scenario he sends him to Cleveland to play on one of the best teams in the AHL on a loaded bowling blue line where he can continue to increase his value

It felt to me Jiricek goes down to the ahl, and immediately talk starts about this.

Seems maybe they said they would listen to offers if he went down

But, Jiricek is an asset for the time being. So, best not to blow that, especially given that he is a big RHD which is a premium position in the NHL. Like OT/DE in the NFL.

Waddell knows that and will make the best of the situation. If he views that Jiricek has checked out of the organization, then he will aim to move him.

which again I think could just as easily what I said in that 1st post about stalling and buying time for Jiricek to start finding his game again. For all I or anyone knows Waddell could also plan on moving a defensemen or 2 and have plans to bring him up later in the year if his play stays at a sufficient level. It just doesn't work timing wise and I don't think this time of year is when you want to make these trades anyway

Because one can step on to the NHL roster now and help now and in the future vs just in the future.

So what happened to Gucci Goated?? was his sources correct? lmao.

As per DJ. I have serious concerns about his skating. He has balance issues that really limits his transition from skating backwards to forward and vice versa. Im hoping for his sake that its fixable but to me I see a high risk prospect that will cost alot to obtain and is at best 2-3 years away from being NHL ready.

I cant really see a win now team like the Oilers going after him, when they should use the assets they have to get a player that can help them win now, not a risky propsect that may boom or bust in 2-3 years.

As for the Canucks. I dont really see a fit for him long term. The right side top 4 will be occupied by Hronek and Willander for the next decade. Willander will probably join the team as early as this spring. Id rather some other team give up the assets and take on the risk for DJ.

Today's NHL is all about skating skating skating and unfortunately thats just DJs biggest weakness.

Can but isn't. His team opted to claim a RHD after one went down and carried 8 Dmen with Jiricek being mostly a healthy scratch.

Wallinder is probably going to sign after his NCAA season is done.

You're absolutely right, but let's not act like that was a run of the mill waiver claim. That was a unicorn.

Except nobody really wants a tiny forward that’s not really good at anything.
He’s got a great shot and great playmaking. And plays a 200 ft high motor game. Or do you think he was ranked top 10 in the draft for no reason?

That said, of course he’ll have his warts. That’s why he’s on offer for a player with warts. A defenceman that doesn’t have acceleration. A defenceman that has issues with decision making. A defenceman with character issues.

Blue Jackets Area
Jiricek for Simashev

Jiricek for Rossi

Jiricek for Wallstedt

Jiricek for Pens 1st (only lottery win protected)

Those are acceptable in my books

I’ll let Columbus fans weigh in but I doubt many will like this.

2022 9OA Pick Matt Savoie for 2022 6OA Pick Jiricek.

Well if they are asking for pipe dreams like Rossi of course they won’t like it.

But realistically, the trade for two young prospects still finding their way, with nearly equivalent draft pedigrees, should be on considered. It’s after all, what Waddel is asking for and so far not finding. I highly doubt the Oilers offered it though, the Oilers mouthpiece Bob Stauffer already said they aren’t interested in Jiricheck. The moment Savoie sees time with McD or Drai his value goes up immensely. So I’m just throwing shit out there for my own curiosity.
