We're not even playing Jiricek and have defensemen in the press box as it is. With at least one prospect knocking on the door. Makes no sense. These guys just throw shit and see what sticks.

Got a good chuckle out of someone thinking there is some discernible difference between McGroarty and Ohgren. Good prospects, will be solid pros you can win with. Neither has done anything to separate themselves from the next at this time.
For the Wild, this may be the case of where the prospects of what Jiricek could potentially present down the line is more appealing than what may be the reality of what they would actually getting.
The Wild are at the point where they are accumulating pieces they could package for most any player in the league if the right one were to come available and they are comfortable parting with those pieces. I’m not sure Jiricek is the guy you start peeling some of them off for. Certainly a gamble on what you think he may be come and not what he is today.

Is jiriceks skating really as bad as people are making it out to be in this thread or they just kicking a team that’s down? If it’s not so much an issue I would love for the habs to get involved with this.

He went 6th. Didn’t he suffer a knee injury in his draft year? Nemec also a RHD. Think his skating was viewed as being better so no issues with him going 2. Then AZ took Cooley who was a C. Same with Seattle and Wright. Then phi took Gauthier. He had played winger with the Dev team but was to be played at C at BC. Big body C so Phi opted for him. Don’t think Jiricek would have fallen past 6/7 at worst.

The Flyers have 3 1sts and 3 2nds this year, I think it would make more sense to make a package of something there.

I think the value could be right, but I feel like this would be a bad look on Waddells part. We're hardly ready to contend, but the cupboards are full. It's time to start helping the big club.

Smith has played 79% of games, I think 19/24. I don't think that's really comparable.

Yeah I agree but I'm basing that on Johnston's reporting. If they're willing to take a package of picks for Jiricek, Philly is in a better spot than anyone to get it done.
Philly could offer something like Bonk and one of their late 1sts/early 2nds for Jiricek and it likely blows out any other offer out of the water.
21 draft a lot of kids didn’t play. Plus goalies go when teams want them. Development timeline is 4-5 years before they are backups. A lot of GMs prefer to use firsts on skaters.
He was rated in round 1 and that’s where he went. Most scouting services had him ahead of Cossa who Detroit took earlier. Since like 2010, the first round goalies have been, wallstedt, Cossa, Askarov, Knight, Oettinger, Samsonov, Vasi, Subban, Campbell, Visentine. Fewer and fewer getting picked high.
Vasi and Oettinger , you’d take again in round 1. The rest of the pre 2020’s no. With incomplete for the most recent picks. Kind of why teams aren’t using firsts on goalies.

It would not take Bonk, who's seen his prospect stock rise while Jiricek's has plateaued or declined.
This reminds me of Avs fans thinking they would receive the world for Bowen Byram (who was a 4th overall pick and more proven and polished than Jiricek when he was dealt.) Yet they received Mittelstadt for him straight up.
Jiricek has been frustrated and Waddell publicly stated that he hasn't shown enough to keep a job on the big club. The kid hasn't been able to crack the lineup of a team that is starved for talent -- not a great sign of his progression.
I don't think the return will be anything close to what some Jackets fans anticipate.
The Flyers offer of Ristolainen, Brink, and Columbus' 2nd in 2025 back is likely the best deal Columbus will get, considering Dreger said tonight that teams are trying to pry Ristolainen from the Flyers, and the Jackets could likely flip him for another 2nd and a decent prospect asap.

So Jiricek isn’t a good asset because he can’t crack the Jackets at age 20, but Bonk (who couldn’t crack the Flyers at age 19) is a rising prospect?
Some of the logic people throw out in here is bizarre. Jiricek is 20 years old, saying that a 19 year old OHL defenseman is a better asset than him because “Jiricek can’t crack the NHL yet” makes absolutely no sense. And from what I’ve read about Bonk, he seems like a phenomenal prospect.

Wait, I never said Bonk was better than Jiricek. I said, as a prospect, Bonk's value has increased significantly since he was drafted and Jiricek's has plateaued or declined.
The Jackets aren't dealing from a position of strength. They have a frustrated player and a GM who made some foolish statements publicly. I don't think any team is going to cough up one of their 2 best prospects for Jiricek. Like I said, look at the return the Avs received for Byram... Mittelstadt.
Look, I can be completely wrong, and it appears we'll find out sooner than later... so we'll see. And if I'm wrong, I'll own it.
