Maybe, or maybe playing behind one of the worst teams in the AHL with a bad HC is having a negative impact on the stats. Who's to say?

Can you help me find the post you're referring to here where someone said he's arrived? Link it for me?
Maybe or he busts. Likely scenario.

Well that’s cause you’re not the original poster I replied to. But in his defence, while Wallstedt is not proven, neither is Jiricheck, who has a bunch of question marks himself.

Then how exactly do you expect to pull off Jiricek? Especially in the context that we can be pretty sure that the Penguins are willing to go McGroarty for Jiricek?

Want to say no to Buium? Fine, it's costing Yurov instead. And frankly I'd take McGroarty over Yurov anyway, especially with Columbus' track record with Russian born players.
If you told me you worked for Pittsburgh, it would make so much sense for why they are terrible this year.

He's being ruined in Iowa with a sh#$y HC and a weak team. Billy re-signed Fleury thinking it would be fun to run with 3 goalies. He told Wally to look for a home in the Twin Cities implying that he would stay here. But surprise! We're gonna put our club in a situation where you're gonna have to go back to Iowa!

He needs to be with the big club to gain some experience instead of rotting away his confidence in Iowa.

It was a throw away comment as part of a larger conversation on TSN Overdrive, but Lebrun just confirmed Dubas has been trying to get something done for Jiricek.

I seriously don’t see what Pittsburgh can offer other than the pick package which will be quite disappointing
McGroarty, Blomquist, or picks are probably the only things Pittsburgh has the Blue Jackets would see as interesting futures.

It would almost assuredly be McGroarty plus another pick or prospect. If the Penguins had their 2nd this year, I think McGroarty plus that 2nd would be a pretty competitive offer. Their 2nd likely ends up around pick #40.

Yeah but he was great in the AHL last year so maybe there's something else going on other than "he sucks"
Wasn’t there more question marks around why teams didn’t draft him earlier? I don’t seem to recall teams purposefully not drafting him. His number this season seem more like an outlier to his career and not typical.

What's not working for McGroarty yet in pro hockey offensively? Is it skating with him too?

McGroarty does have a skating issue as well but it's less noticeable because the dude has a sky high hockey IQ. He always knows where to be on the ice and is amazing at anticipating the play.

In terms of his offense in the AHL, his AHL coach seems to think he's just snakebit. I actually noticed that in the pre-season as well, the dude was getting an boatload of chances but the pucks just weren't going in.

Could potentially be an issue unless they see a better avenue to fix McGroarty's skating or like the IQ enough. Evason's system makes speed a major priority and this past draft focused heavily on skating+size under new management. But either way, I'm sure Columbus has built a strong opinion of the guy the last few years one way or the other

He got postered on a goal in his third game and was sent down immediately, despite putting a ppg in the preseason. His confidence took a while to recover.

Demidov might do. 5th pick for 6th pick, seems like a fair deal to me
lol

McGroarty for Jiricek honestly isn't a bad deal. I think the combo of inner division and the pens just getting him make it pretty unrealistic though.

Overall though, is Jiricek THAT much better of a dman than what McGroarty is a wing to the point where the gap is a 2nd (or something of similar value)?

I know Jiricek is good obviously but he's bounced between the NHL and AHL for the better part of two and half seasons. McGroarty got a little NHL time and is now in the AHL after having a good NCAA year last year.

Both have skating concerns, both a big guys, similarly aged...in my opinion it's closer than we might think. Everyone thought McGroarty would get a ransom. I remember Jets fans telling me "Penguins don't have the ponies to get McGroarty" and low and behold, it's a 1:1 swap.

We gave Jake to the Canes. We gave Riley Smith to the Rangers. We gave Marino to the Devils. We gave Nylander to Columbus. "Inner division" might be a little played out.

Yeah I'd say so. Using that Wheeler list I mentioned before, it has Jiricek as the 12th best prospect on tier 3 and McGroarty as the 33rd best prospect on tier 4.

I also don't think a 2nd rounder is some insane value to add on top of McGroarty. They'll likely be getting 2 of those for Pettersson as a rental this year after all.

A 20 year old bouncing between the ahl and the NHL isn't out of the ordinary. Also if you want back two and a half years he wasn't even drafted yet....

Also, jake was a rental and the rest of those were absolute nobodies. There's a whole lot of sensationalism in this post.

As long as it doesn't block Spacek, I like it! Would be hillarious if he gets traded and sent to Iowa though.lol
He would. If he can't nail down a spot on CBJ, he isn't going to get one on MN, which has Faber, Spurgeon, and a surprisingly solid Bogosian on the right. All are signed for next season, also.

BTW, Spacek hasn't been perfect, but is starting to look good down in the AHL. He's probably their 2nd best Dman right now.

Johns(t)on said again on insider trading that the Jackets are now looking for picks/a package deal and might even be willing to take a depth dman back as part of it.
