Why do the suits in MLSE think they know **** about hockey? It's getting tiring, this is the same old song and dance.

Welcome Nazem Kadri to the Vancouver Canucks. Hi Roberto Luongo.

*Certain (we all know who) posters rallied against the idea of Luongo all summer, and always preaches "play the kids". He also has a personal vendetta against Brian Burke. Now, the chances of trading our "kids" just increased.

Hahahaha.

Can't wait for tomorrow to see what happens. If Lou becomes a leaf and Gardiner is a Nucks I really do not know what will happen. I just feel like TOR has a massive crush on this kid and trading him will have MASSIVE repercussions. but on a good note....
How about them Jays? I hear they have a good shot this year?

This is crazy, these new A holes from Rogers and Bell come in and get in a tizzy because Burke swears and isn't a boardroom type. This was my biggest worry with these two owning the team, NON HOCKEY PEOPLE WITH NO CLUE MAKING DECISIONS BASED ON CORPORATE PROTOCOLS. Nonis will be a complete yes man, they just fired a guy because he didn't play ball, he knows who calls the shots and he will run EVERYTHING through a bunch of economics majors. This is not good people, no matter your feelings about Burke. It was handled in a pathetic manor, the timing is atrocious. The new regime makes me yearn for Peddie.

It's already been reported the George Cope from Bell hated Burke from the first minute and wanted him gone almost immediately.

The new suits running the organization want a more "corporate" (pliable) person running the hockey organization.

Yes, these are exactly the type of people I want running my hockey team and making big hockey related decisions.

If this is true, it's pretty scary. If "style" and personal feelings will influence hockey decisions by the Leafs, if everyone hiring has to fit some "corporate" code, well, it's almost as bad and laughable as the Habs need to have all GM or coaches be French.

Under wanting someone more "corporate" you can now rule out a lot of crusty coaches and GMs who will now never be brought to Toronto. No Sutter, ever, will be allowed near this team. Like Lindy Ruff and John Tortorella? If they're ever available, they'll never be hired here. No one with a personality like Bruce Boudreau, either, I'm guessing.

You can also forget about anyone brash and outspoken in the mold of Alex Ovechkin or Brett Hull ever being allowed to play for the Leafs, I suppose. I guess they want a group of inoffensive altar boys. Given how sarcastic and absolutely cruel I've heard Randy Carlye can be with his honesty, I'm shocked he's allowed to stay.

Those of you hating Kessel should be prepared to see him made Captain eventually given how quiet and inoffensive he is. The perfect face for the new Rogers-Bell Leafs, someone who will smile and say very little.

Not a whole lot of continuity in Leaf land. The only good thing is that Nonis knows the team but a really poor decision that has the potential to derail the whole season for the Leafs. The owners have put themselves straight in the crosshairs if the Leafs stumble out of the gate

Listen to the Anselmi interview with McCown. I wanted to punch my windshield out listening to that *****. McCown backed him up into a corner so much that Anselmi basically stated that Burke wasn't fired because of his hockey moves.

And that folks, is a joke.

Oh, we have decades of continuity, edging in on a half century's worth, it's just continuous **** ups, that's all.

Would we not have to wait until the players ratify? According to most that could be as late as Saturday. Either way I just want the Lou thing settled.

Your GM just got fired because some suit from Bell didn't like the way he talked a week before a shortened season is about to start. Dramatic? Oh okay, enjoy the gong show, because we're in the midst of one.

Everyone is reading what they will out of it. IMO, Anselmi basically said Burke wasn't fired 'purely' because of his hockey moves. However, the hockey moves didn't help his cause any.

Pretty obvious. Why would they hire Nonis if they weren't a fan of Burke's moves?

Definitely a joke. Not a good start for this new ownership. Kind of scared for what's to come.

Your GM wasn't the problem.... Richard Peddie and Tom Anselmi were/are the problem.

Exactly, Nonis actually made most of the moves if you take Burke at his word, so why do you keep him if the moves are the real issue. NO, this is simply some Bell stooge who is used to having his own way not jiving with a guy who speaks his mind and instead of making a rational move we DUMP our GM on the eve of the season. The whole hockey world is shocked, not because of Burke's abysmal record and perhaps deserving to be fired, but because they did so without a game being played, nine months after we last touched the ice. This is about politics, and it is a joke. If this is about hockey, Nonis is SO gone!

Nonis would be gone, Caryle would be gone.

This move is all about corporate image and this certainly isn't going to do anything to improve it unless the team somehow starts winning.

If we dumped Burke in the summer, I'd have no qualms, you can't really defend the record, or at least not acknowledge the rationale. To do it today, with this shortened season, is pure madness, it reeks of a powerplay by a suit who is used to pushing people around. A very bad omen for this regime, and the rest of the hockey world is rightfully laughing at us right now.

If you're going to fire Burke based on his hockey philosophies, don't replace him with Nonis.

If you're going to fire Burke based not on his hockey philosophies, don't fire Burke.

Burke is not the same as Nonis.......not sure that Nonis is the long term solution but in the short term it makes sense as he knows all the players and understands our assets better that an outsider. So with the timing of the firing it left Nonis as the only logical choice.

I think it is a collection of reason why Burke was fired.....it was a gong show, and Burke was the Ring Master.....

In short Burke got fired for being Burke. He is a legend.....in his own mind.
