Friedman: Darnell Nurse requests a trade

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
They only will move Risto if it’s a massive overpayment.

Seeler probably blocks a trade to Edmonton.

Seeler doesn't have any trade protection from what I can see, at least starting July 1st. Also I figure that Philly will get a comically stupid package if they sell Ristolainen. I think #25+ from Ottawa makes a lot of sense.

Look at the prices in the market right now. That's about what a trade is going to end up being.

A decent bottom pair DFD and a future year's 2nd for Nurse is probably about what he's bringing back at this point. Then they'll make up for it by selling Ristolainen in this insane market and get way overpaid for him most likely.
I don’t buy it on the market bit, we’ve yet to see a comparable player on a comparable contract get moved.

A players value is only as good as a team is willing to pay, Nurse isn’t in a position of strength to garner much on a return. Add in the fact he’s also limiting his own trade value by limiting the team as he’s willing to go to.

Huh? Seeler has no trade protection. The only things he can block are pucks.

Also that would be a mistake for a 33 year old bottom pair defenseman to do. Count his lucky stars he is still in the big show.

I know you despise the Oilers. You're in every thread crapping on their players.

You might be right with Nurse, but I think your bias against the team blinds you to the truth; this off season all bets are off with player values.

Nurse getting a guy and a mid pick is a very real possibility. An actual hockey trade.

That won’t be enough for Jones/Briere.

And they love Seeler. Thinks he’s the model defender.

Hopefully it’s not the Flyers if it’s a mid round pick.

There has been no indication of this, where is a comparable trade. It’s nothing but high hopes at this time.

History has shown us that players shoehorning themselves to specific teams rarely add much value

Seth Jones, Chicago to Florida.

Jones and a 4th for a conditional 1st and Spencer Knight.

Chicago retained $2.5 Million.

Look at the mayhem going on right now. Today. You can't tell me a hockey trade with Nurse is impossible.

Jones is also a better hockey player and was traded over a year ago. How does that have any impact on the current market.

No hockey trade is impossible, just unlikely. Nurse with retention would likely garner something

He does have an NTC till the end of the 25-26 season in a week's time.

Looks like we have shifted from

Oilers will

Retain nurse
Add a first rounder
Add a top oiler prospect (note, that is different from a top NHL prospect)

To

Nurse for an actuall NHL player.

I'm still hoping for a trash for trash contract but the trash contract we get back is around 4M and that player can actually play on our roster. Bottom 6 forward. 3LD. Goalie dump.

Also, how many guys have been traded since Larkin, nurse and cossa were imminent?lol

Not the craziest thing I’ve seen on here. But I’d want to see at least 25 percent retention on Nurse. And honestly, I don’t readily see how objectively this makes the team any better as Risto was decent. At least Nurse stays healthy? But who knows.
Nurse has every intangible under the sun in spades, ideal for a team looking to take the next step and reach the ECF

yep. and purely logically, given that multiple teams are extremely interested, there may be a small bidding war behind the scenes as well

Quite frankly... I'm not even sure the Nurse contract is that bad at this point..

If I'm Chicago.. I would have just traded nothing for Nurse, kept the picks and taken a D.
Way better than trading for Byram and paying him 12m.. or whatever the hell he's gonna get.

By the time they would have to pay the D they picked in the draft.. Nurse would be off the books.

his skillset is also ideal for a team trying to take the next step and make the ECF

b2b cup finalist experience as a veteran assistant captain, toughness, intimidation and heavyweight boxing. perfect for playoff hockey

though Nurse does bring an elite set of intangibles that none of the other D come close to matching

Nurse would be an incredible add. the Flyers need a veteran leader with b2b cup finalist pedigree and playoff toughness to take them to the next level

You aren't selling a used car. No need to go overbaord with hard sell.

Careful!

Many posters will read this and say

Oiler fans think there is a huge bidding war for nurse and they will get an elite package.lol

I totally agree though.

Seems like there are a handful of teams interested in him. So there is interest which should lead to us not getting murdered.

Of course.. Bowman is still GM.lol.

I just want a 3LD coming back or a bottom 6 winger.

Not trade destinations but Chariot or debrusk and I'm happy. Just need a guy like that on a team in the running.
