So yeah, as soon as I saw the update I was cheering and dancing at my desk... :vhappy:

He's basically a defensively-focused defenseman, based more on positioning and stickwork rather than physicality (he's not a big guy). Sometimes he shows flashes of offensive flair, but it's really rare and not something to count on.

He looked fantastic alongside Josi when Laviolette was playing the two together - let Josi be the rover while Fabbro took care of home duties. So I'd just put him up next to Werenski and see if that magic can be rediscovered. (And if it can, then we can trade Provorov for a nice return early... :) )

Congrats to you all. When he was paired with Josi on our top pairing on a daily basis, Josi had a career season (and should've won the Norris).

New GM and coach didn't know what to do with him and want to play Josi on his off-side.

Jack Johnson to the press box more often would seem to be the implication. Or not. In any case, not a game changer for the CBJ.

Interesting, what with Harris? Or Jiříček will be sent to Cleveland?

Probably:

Werenski, Fabbro
Provorov, Severson
Christiansen, xxx

Theoretically yes. But do not forget what's happen in the last season with Jiříček. Although... Nemec and Korchinski are in the AHL... :sarcasm:

Viqsi wrote he played good with Josi. So maybe we could try him with Werenski.
Yeah but the reason it could work with Werenski is he's a lower event defense guy. Does it have potential? Maybe. That said, taking away a low event guy from Severson and putting Provorov there again does not sound like a recipe for success.

I personally see zero reason to move Provorov from pair 1 until he's potentially traded

I am happy for Viqsi. :D

Fabbro's name has been thrown around for a while as an interesting D man so it's cool to actually get to try him out.

Both of our top 4 pairs are getting good results and have some chemistry right now, so I think it makes more sense to have Fabbro take over in the 5/6/7 spots until later in the year when Provorov is dealt.

I think the potential is higher simply because of the existence proof shown with Josi a couple years back. I can understand some hesitation and I won't get too grumpy if Evason goes the same route, but I really do think this could work really well.

Good luck with that. if the Preds can’t trade Fabro, what do you think is the likelihood of trading a large contract for a similar defenseman?

They aren't similar defensemen at all. Maybe Fabbro becomes that with opportunity but noone is paying (clearly) for maybe. They will however pay for a guy giving good results and 24+ minutes a night

I agree on keeping the top 4 together for now but I don't agree on the "low event" part being all that helpful. Christiansen isn't low event, really none of our top 4 guys are, and that's part of why they work together. They can rotate and weave with each other because they have the hockey sense to all play that game. Having one guy back while Werenski goes on an adventure is not how our system works. There are a lot more moving parts and offensive reads required.

Good luck with that. if the Preds can’t trade Fabro, what do you think is the likelihood of trading a large contract for a similar defenseman?

- You may have missed the "later in the year" part, when playoff clubs start buying.

- I'm not sure if the general view around the league is that Fabbro and Provorov are similar players. I would be thrilled frankly if Fabbro was as good as Provorov.

- The Jackets have the means to make salary neutral trades, which I'm guessing Nashville didn't want to do, they couldn't trade with most clubs without taking millions in cap back.

I am purely here to see if Viqsi is ecstatic or not. Also I am happy for you guys in general since that one poster who mentioned it a couple of years ago needing good things

Also really hoping he works out for you guys since I've been following him since his BCHL days and man I am and was high on him.

Edited for accurate name spelling my bad!

If Fabbro has been playing like a top-4 D for a good while by the end of season and the team is starting to lose their belief in Jiricek panning out as 1RD for whatever reasons, maybe Waddell should try trading Jiricek (with prospect or pick possibly added) for another high upside RD.

Admittedly, I am very sour recently. Especially about the team.

I have a hard time believing Fabbro is as good as he’s being billed as. Maybe he had an excellent season a few years ago next to *checks notes* Roman Josi, but was that because he’s actually good? Or was it because he played with Josi. Like when Chris Kunitz was putting up major stats, was that because Kunitz was an elite player or because he played with Sidney Crosby?

I mean it cost us nothing to grab him, so whatever, but I feel like we gained another guy for the rotating door at 3rd pairing defenseman to play with Jack Johnson.

I suspect this will be a short term stay with him being a deadline move.
